Saw this at tale end of Keane story on BB website:

The arrival of Keane takes Liverpool's spending to about £32m since the end of last season. They have already drafted in Degen, fellow full-back Andrea Dossena, goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri and teenagers David Ngog and Emmanuel Mendy.

About £20m has been raised by selling Crouch, John Arne Riise, Scott Carson and Danny Guthrie.

So net £12 Million spend? If this is right surely we have another decent purchase left before the season kicks off?

Hope so. Are we inching ever closer to number 19? Will 1/2 more players do it? I think were deffo on the right lines with Keane.....maybe add a splash of natural width and we could just about be there?

I have this very strange feeling that all is not as bad as it seems at Anfield, and it would not surprise me if we still had cash for another big name signing.

I think Rafa is playing the skint game really well and will not be held to ransom.

Assuming Alonso is set to stay it would be a no brainer.........Silva for me!

I take it you believe Alonso should be sold then and replaced with Barry? Still can't understand this one myself, Alonso, for me, is a much better proposition that Barry.

yup, think silva would give us that extra bit of magic, esp in tight games, a player like silva will make a difference. Barry is consistent, but we have enough of those types of players in our squad

One paper this morning is talking about £6m for Voronin and £4m for Pennant. Add in £14m for Alonso (if we can get it) and then £18m or so for Barry would give us a net spend for the year of around £23m, which is pretty close to our usual net spend per year on transfers.

Good point, that said, if we dont buy Barry and so don't sell Alonso but sell the Crow and Pennant, nett £19 million spend, will there be money available to buy another player?

Arbeloa might reduce this nett by another £7-£9 million but still we'd be looking to owners to make available funds to complete successful summer transfer period.
