Rafa's Last Season?

We've been out of title as we concentrate on the CL to EARN MONEY PRECISELY BECAUSE HE HASNT BEEN BACKED. CL Winnings = Net spend.Originally posted by rage View Posthe's had 4 seasons amigo. a minimum expectation in the league has got to be set. being out of the title race by xmas every year is not good enough.
rafa has been backed every year and he's failed to do this.
i'd like to think that the best managers don't use excuses like oh but they had more money to spend than i did. they compete regardless.
i really want him to succeed but the next time he decides to rest torres in a league game only to play him in a midweek carling cup game should be used to demonstrate why we fail to compete rather than lack of funds.
The man has and is doing a great job. If there's no-one better, then it can take him 10 years to win the league for all i care. no-one better = we'll do worse. We'll go backwards. name a replacement or support the man ffs.

sorry had to go and do some work pc. in response to your point mainly about progression in the champions league - i totally agree rafa is excellent there. i also agree that we are playing catch up. my point is how long is it acceptable to play catch up without actually getting even within touching distance?Originally posted by PC Plod View PostRag, please respond to these facts we have taken the trouble to point out for your benefit.
as for friedk presentations of statistics - well i just use the statistic that matters at the end of the season - where you finish in the table. if you carry through this thinking then is paisley a worse manager than rafa even though he won league titles with fewer points? as far as i'm concerned its about finishing first, not about how many points you accumulate.

oh and i'm trying to remember my history but i'm sure paisley won it when it was 3 points for a win as well.

If we have a seriously bad season then of course a lot of people will be calling for his head. Im of the opinion that we are still moving forwards and thats despite our ****ing owners and ceo ****ing everything up thats humanly possible. As such I dont want to contemplate Rafa leaving and im 99.9% that he will be the one to guide us to No.19, be it this year or 5 years down the line. If we continue to progress we will do it at some stage. As soon as we start falling back and Rafa loses the plot then sack him.
I dont think anyone should be calling for his head in July before the season even starts though, its just wrong.

You are missing the point of my post- it isnt about our progression in the CL, it is about that of our peers. They are doing much better, which indicates our league is much stronger.Originally posted by rage View Postsorry had to go and do some work pc. in response to your point mainly about progression in the champions league - i totally agree rafa is excellent there. i also agree that we are playing catch up. my point is how long is it acceptable to play catch up without actually getting even within touching distance?

I've indicated my position about us "challenging"- namely, we shouldnt be too far away, but I firmly believe that no manager would be able to win the league with the financial resources Rafa has at his disposal. Wenger is a proven manager in the Prem, but the Gooners are struggling as mauch as we are in the league. The only person I can see doing significantly better is Fergiscum & that int gonna happen.
Therefore, barring disasters (ie finishing outside the top 4 2 seasons running without extenuating circumstances), I do not think we should even consider getting rid of the legend that is Rafa Benitez.3rd place. Worst champions ever.

well then when do you draw the line? come on he's yet to have ever competed in the league. i want this to change along with everyone else but we cannot let this carry on forever. being out of the title race by xmas this year will be inexcusable imo.Originally posted by PC Plod View PostYou are missing the point of my post- it isnt about our progression in the CL, it is about that of our peers. or that the other leagues are weaker - the french and dutch leagues are non existant, the german and italian leagues are weak and the only competition comes from spain but even they are in a period of transition.
