The Gooners truly are a deluded bunch.

All the Gooners I know think the sun shines out Arsene's Arse.

No doubt they'll play lots of pretty football at the start of the season, have the media foaming at the mouth like rabid wilderbeest and then fall away dramatically at the crunch end of the season prompting accusations that they lack mental toughness and 'don't like it up 'em.'

There is some truth in that surely. In the hurly burly of the PL at least Mascher is a specialist destroyer and neat short passer and rarely anything else. The fact that he is is limited in what he does doesn't make him less valuable - would Chelsea have won the PL without Makelele I very much doubt it.

I thought it was a pretty good assesment from a non Liverpool fan, if any of us did the same report on Arsenal, I would expect the same respose from Gooners.

Everytime someone writes slightly negative points about us they get hammered on these forums.

Well enjoy your champions league quarter final second leg highlights package once again mate. Gooners think they run the league because they pass the ball copying our methods of the great era.

The worrying thing is this kind of fan genuinely believes that Wilshere and whatever 16 year old played pre season is going to be better than Keane and Barry combined
Wenger lost the race to sign Babel so he has just put **** to his whole story.. which was a waste of his time that I'm made up he'll never get back!

But my minor point is, in my opinion he does raise a lot of valid points:

Carra: Good central defender, not so good at fulback and thats where I think he will end up.

If we all took our red tinted glasses off, it wasn't a bad report.

To be fair at the Under 21 championships just before we signed him the word was that Arsenal had decided not to follow up their interest in him and that their scouting reports were that he wasn't at the required level (this was talked about on the BBC before our interest was really known).

I think that babel remains an as yet unpolished diamond but he has lots to prove - much like Nasri, Walcott and a number of other Arsenal players.

                      Can't disagree with that fella.

Some valid points but also some dog awful points as well

Worth noting though that other than Sagna no other team really has a top class proven right back better than Carra though. Boswinga may yet flop and Wes Brown is solid but hardly a different class to JC at fullback. Added to the fact I don't share his belief that he will play most of his games there as I expect us to aim for more penetration and have Arbeloa/Degen in against most teams.

My trouble with your assessment of Mascher is this, he and others like him have only been with us a very short time, who knows what sort of players they will eventually be for us, but i for one expect improvements from many players, that others seem to already have made their mind up on as being the finished article.

Fair enough. I do think though that you have to base the assessment of players on what you have seen them do previously. I accept that there is a lot of potential development in many players but I would think the style of Maschers contribution will remain the same and the point I was making is that that is not necessarily a bad thing.

                                Very effective but limited.
