    LFC Academy 08/09

This thread is here to discuss academy players and academy news. As we seem to have quite a few quality players coming through the ranks thought i would carry the thread similar to last years.....

I will post and update all the results (and league tables) in this post and links to the match report....I will also include TLW & Echo match reports as they seem to give better match reports than the official site.

Academy squad for 2008-09: Player Profiles

    Dean Bouzanis

Dean is an 18 year old Aussie goalkeeper who has decided to represent Greece at international level. He is a 2nd year at the academy and has already established himself as the no.1 for the under 18's side. He was bought from Australia in the summer through a reccomondation of Agent in Australia. Dean has the potential to go on and challange for a first team place if he continues to progress well at the academy and reserve level. Dean has been told by Rafa that he is the best goalie he has seen at his age. Also if you play your cards right be becomes a Wonderkid in Football Manager 2008.

    Chris Oldfield

Chris made his debut in goal last season for the under 18's and also found himself on the bench at reserve team level. He is a local lad with alot of potential but faces alot of competition for the no.1 jersey in the under 18's team but will be Hughie's no.1 at the start of the campaign.

    Hakan Duyan

Hakan has made the step up from under 16's this year and this will be his first year as an under 18's goalie, he is big, agile and a good shot stopper but will need to develop his game even more to make the next step up. Hakan also made the bench at reserve team level last season and started in a reserve pre season fixture this season.

    Deale Chamberlain

Deale is from the midlands like myself so is a born winner, and has already been involved in the England under 17's set up. Deale will be a 1st yearer and was poached from Villa and attracted alot of interest from other clubs but ended up at Liverpool, lets hope it was the right decision for both player and club.

    Joe Kennedy

Joe is a beast of a player. He is well built and very strong and poowerfull in the air. He is normally a centre back but has played as a wing back in the past. He is another local lad and growing up he supported the bitters. At 17 Joe has already shown great potential in the academy and is a possible star of the future.

    Pajtim Kasami

Pajtim signed from Grasshopper Zurich in the summer. He is naturally a centre back but can also play as a holding midfielder, he has a sweet left foot and is an exciting prospect at the acdemy and could be a player that suprises a few this year.

    Daniel Ayala

Sadly not a relation of Roberto, infact he isn't even Argentinian. We signed the young spaniard from Seville last summer and he is a big powerfull centre back. Although he has struggled at times in games he has shown glimpses of why he is so highly rated by Seville and no doubt given more time to settle down he can turn into a quality player.

    Jack Metcalf

Jack is a defender promoted from the under 16's and like many others as progressed through the academy ranks at Liverpool and is a local lad. He is normally a centre back but can also play right back and in central midfield if needed. He has also played a few games for the reserves in pre-season and is a player that the coaches expect to do well this season.

    Gary MacKay-Steven

Gary was bought to the academy last summer from Ross County and is now into his 3rd year at the academy and will be hoping to break into the reserve team squad. He is a tricky winger who has an eye for a goal. He is left footed and is a good dribbler of the ball but will need to work on the physical side of his game to progress in the future.

    Shane O'Connor

Was bought last summer from Cork City as a midfielder. Although last season he has mainly played as a defender at left back. Shane has already represented Ireland Under-17s and has been a key player for under 18's and will be looking to breaking into the reserve side later this year as this his 3rd year as an academy player.

    Steven Irwin

Steven is 18 and is an versitile player, he can play anywhere along the back 4 and in midfield. He has mainly played as a wing back this season for the academy. He is a local lad and is now the under 18's captain for the secon season.

    Michael Scott

This will be Michaels 3rd year at the academy and is his final chance to prove that he deserves a new deal and a move to Melwood. Michael is an attacking right back who loves to bomb forward (probably because he use to be a striker) and has pace to burn and is technically very sound. He has adapted to playing right back very well and if his early season form continues he will be pushing for that new deal and place in reserve team.

    Sean Highdale

Sean is scousetastic! Sadlt Sean was involved in a serious road accident and suffered from a broken leg but hopefully will be back playing around x-mas. He is 17 and a hardworking central midfielder who always gives 100%, he could be likened to Jay Spearing in his never say die attitude. Sean has already represented England Under 16's and is a player to keep an eye on in the future.

    Michael Roberts

Is a young central midfielder we signed from Tranmere Rovers last season. Michael is more of a holding midfielder and loves to tackle and then keeps is simple and gives the ball to the more forward thinking players. He is a key player for the reds as he adds balance to the team.

    Astrit Ajdarevic

This younge Swede is an 3rdd year at the academy and has already tasted success by helping the team win the youth cup two seasons ago. He is likened to Patrick Berger in looks and in playing style and with his pin point passing he has split open many a defence. He has been tol he can leave the club suprisingly but he is currently still involved with the academy.

    Alex Cooper

Alex is a left sided player, who can play in defence or midfield, he was signed from Ross County in the summer. He has an excellent left foot and is quick and loves to bomb forward down the left touchline. There will be alot of competition for places on the left hand side so Alex will need to impress when given the chance.

    Christopher Buchtmann

Christopher is another left sided player who signed from Borussia Dortmund in the summer. He has already represented Germany at youth level and is a technically giftet player who will cause teams problems with his skills, pace and pin-pont passing.

    Alex Kacaniklic

Alex is 17 and was bought last summer from Helsingborg. Alex is a tricky winger who has good technique and loves to take on defenders. He is highly rated in Sweden and with lots of competition for a place on the left wing will have to take his chance once given it.

    Thomas Ince

Thomas son of former player Paul Ince is a left winger with bags of pace, skill and tricks. He has a great left foot and will scare the daylights of of fullbacks with his pace, he had a great goalscoring record in the under 16's last season and will be a player to watch out for this season.

    David Amoo

Dubbed the new 'Emile Heskey', David is a beast of a player. At only 17 is strong as an ox and has pace to burn. David was bought from Millwall in the summer and his best position is a striker but with so many talanted strikers available he has been deployed on the wing at times. He was ever present in the academy side last season and is a really exciting prospect, lets just hope he isn't a confidence player like big Emile.

    Lauri Dalla Valle

Lauri is the Finn wonderkid who everyone wanted to sign and has been described by LFC staff as the most natural goalscorer ever seen for his age. He signed for Inter at schoolboy level as his dad is Italian and a big Inter fan but he become homesick after 4 months and returned to his homeland where Liverpool convinced him his future was here last January and scored 5 goals in 6 matches for the under 16's. He scored ridiculas amounts of goals at schoolboy level and has the ability to convert it to professional level, so watch out for the finn in the white boots this season.

    Adam Pepper

Dubbed the new Rooney at just 11, Adam has been subject to alot of media attention at a young age and all major clubs around europe wanted his signature and even though he was a bluenose as a child he joined the reds. He scored 16 goals for the under 16's last campaign which led to him being introduced to the under 18's set-up at the season finale where he bagged his first goal against Barnsley. Lets hope he can continue to impress and develop his skills this season as i have a feeling we will be hearing alot more about this lad in the near future.

    James Ellison

Is another local lad who has progressed through the academy ranks. James is a striker and formed a great partnership with Adam Pepper at under 16's level, lets hope he can continue this at under 18's level.

    Nathan Eccleston

Nathan is only 17 and was the top goalscorer at the academy last season. Nathan is a Manc and has already represented England at youth level. Nathan has great technique and pace to burn, he has been likened to Stan Collymore, lets just hope he has a better head on his shoulders. Nathan is probably the most exciting prospect at the academy and one to watch out for.

    Marvin Pourie

Marvin arrived at the academy ilast summer from Borussia Dortmund. He has made a big impact since arriving and has already made the step up to reserve team football. Marvin is another strong striker who isn't short of pace and is a fox in the box type of striker. He is one to watch out for in the future.

There was disappointment for Liverpool Under-18s as they lost 3-0 to Japanese side Kashiwa Reysol in their opening game of the Villarreal tournament.
Nathan Eccleston had a great chance in the opening minute of the game when he found himself clean through but was denied by a good save, and that was at good as it got for Liverpool.

Hughie McAuley then suffered a blow when German Christopher Buchtmann was forced to leave the field after 10 minutes with a knee injury.

"We made some poor mistakes and I have to say that on the night they were better than us," McAuley told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"We didn't play as well as we have been doing in pre-season and we didn't pass the ball like we normally do.

"We created some decent chances but Nathan and Marvin Pourie couldn't take them and we gave away some poor goals.

"I will be looking for a response from the players when we face Real Madrid tonight. That will be a big test for us."

Liverpool team: Chris Oldfield, Jack Metcalf, Christopher Buchtmann (Michael Roberts 10), Andre Wisdom (Under-16), Joe Kennedy, Astrit Ajdarevic, David Amoo (James Ellison 83), Adam Pepper, Lauri Dalla Valle (Marvin Pourie 45), Nathan Eccleston, Alex Kacaniklic (Thomas Ince 65).

He is not getting the best out of the players we have. Last year we were miles off in the league and dumped out of the cup by Sunderland.
I just dont rate him and think the players dont have much respect for him. He is always making excuses too.
                    Just my opinion.

I agree, I don't think Hughie is the man for the U18's I thought it last season, we need someone like a Gary Ablett, this should be one of Rafa's next priorities imo

At the end of last season there were rumours that loads of the youth staff were off - did anything ever come of that?

Apparently Real Madris coached apologised to Hughie after the game because of some 'dodgy' ref decisions in the last 8 mins that saw us concede 2 late goals.
