So has Rafa played him as anything than a second striker to date ? Even if he played him on the wing, what's your problem ?

the boy looked confused. infact i'm confused playing someone on the left is not a second striker, but hey if the lad on the right is a defensive striker then what do i know.Originally posted by fredo View PostSo has Rafa played him as anything than a second striker to date ? if rafa played keane in goal you'd still think he was fulfilling his second striker role by hoofing the ball up the pitch.
yes it was a friendly, yes it didn't matter but it was plain for all to see we paid 20 odd million for keane because he plays well behind the striker. he wouldn't be worth 5 million as a left sided attacking midfielder. i hope rafa can see that. keane is one of the best in the league at playing that role, why waste him elsewhere?

Rafa's philosophy is clear. He wants players who are versatile as he focuses on options.Originally posted by rage View Postthe boy looked confused. infact i'm confused playing someone on the left is not a second striker, but hey if the lad on the right is a defensive striker then what do i know.

100% correct Mr Fredo.Originally posted by fredo View PostRafa's philosophy is clear. He wants players who are versatile as he focuses on options.

Lets hope this philosophy reaps some rewards sooner rather than later. I am optimistic this season but still fear that we are heading for 3rd, but the gap will be closer and we will still be contenders in April.

I know all about the modern game and why say someone like Feguson wants Tevez, Rooney and Ronaldo interchanging, but why would Rafa, his tactics are so regimental.Originally posted by blacky View PostIs that a genuine question or another pop at the gaffer?
Rashid surely you don't need anyone to explain the benefits of versatility in the modern game?

I don't think from an attacking point of view he is regimental at all TBH I don't get what you are implying!!Originally posted by Rashid View PostI know all about the modern game and why say someone like Feguson wants Tevez, Rooney and Ronaldo interchanging, but why would Rafa, his tactics are so regimental.Dare we believe

First 2 signings were Degen and Dossena, both attacking wide players.Originally posted by Rashid View PostPre-season or not, I have seen nothing from Rafa to suggest he can have us challenging for the league. This summere was supposed to be about attacking wide players, he has bought anyone but.
Nah. He won't win the Prem. You can quote me on that. - Sarb24

every coach has different things he looks for in players whether that be attitude, mentality, physicality, flexibility or talent.
Rafa has his own checklist of factors that he requires in players and his checklist will be different to that of ferguson, wenger and scolari because he sets his teams up differently.
versatility is important in the modern game but it isnt and never will be as important as talent.
I had a scrap book that I looked through the other day and there was an article about Liverpool going back to the mid 80's and they were talking about why we were so successful. The single most important factor in our success was deemed to be the fact that always bought good players with talent.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]

One is no better than Darby and the other seems decent but not of the quality that our rivals have in those areas. If we are highlighting defenders as our "big signings" to win us the league then no wonder most fans happily accept 4th.Originally posted by Skillz View PostFirst 2 signings were Degen and Dossena, both attacking wide players.
