this just makes us look unprofessional,we've managed to chase a player all summer knowing he's valued at 18mil.then a week before the new season we say he costs too much,so we have managed to unsettle a player and soured the relationship between the two clubs.
    who's arsed?

Hope you are right a fully functioning Xabi is the best CM in the world. I'm just not convinced on the basis of a couple of pre-season games where he hasn't been put under any pressure that he has turned a corner.

On the bright side, I think Lucas can cover if Xabi doesn't improve.

Disagree with all of that mate,

Rafa wasn't cocky at all, Martin O'neill was a knobhead

Barry could force this move if he wants to and I really believe we will get Barry at a much lesser price than quoted although I believe Rafa's persistence may cost him his job at the end of this season if we don't bring home something major.

And could you please post me a quote were Rafa says that he doesn't want Alonso.

        Cheers.

There is no doubt Alonso will have extra motivation but I expect his to play his usual game. Alonso was not that bad that he should have been sold imo.
Carra had a poor season and needed a kick up the back side. With Agger and Skrtel pushing him, you can bet he will up his game alot.

Rafa was cocky and thought he could unsttle Barry and get Villa to drop there price. MON is the winner here.
Oh the man is a midfield maestro
and his passes are sooo delightful

MON stood firm and although he was a knobhead still has his captain.
I will search for quote but Rafa has made no secret that he wanted to sell Xabi.

Since when has Rick Parry ever looked anything other than Unprofessional?

I think anyone with any sense can clearly see that we have been trying to negotiate a lower price. Nothing wrong with that at all. Aston Villa are the club that will lose credibility. They have a player who has given them 10 years service and now they are stopping him from moving on by putting a ridiculous value on him

Mate there is no winner. Everyone has lost. MONg has a seriously disgruntled team captain, who'll likely be staying and is not match fit.

If this is the end of it all then it's win win.

Xabi gets a final chance to prove his worth and then this time next year Barry's contact will be winding down and we can pick him up on the cheap if we still want him. Perfect.

Does this not seem somewhat like a battle between the owners who have clearly vetoed the sale and Rafa.

After some fans chants yesterday it is clear they have sufficient fans backing them rather than Rafa's judgement. They must be loving some of the reactions from this as they can clearly be seen to be doing what the fans want.

Personally I'd prefer to go with Rafa's judgement on players rather than theirs.

                      3rd place. Worst champions ever.

It seems to me that since interest in Xabi waned. Rafa had a choice to make. Barry or Keane. He chose Keane.

Alonso has not performed well enough for a long time now and he fully deserved a boot up the backside. For the right price it would be an acceptable sale.

Jamie Carragher played through the pain of broken ribs for most of the first 4 months of the season. He was also handicapped by having to play too many games because Agger was out. Cut the guy some slack. You are being really naive on that issue

MON is not a winner here. He may get to keep his captain but the guy has given his all for Villa for 10 years and has been treated **** by MON this summer. MON is a ****** and everyone can see it

Barry has his England career to think of and will keep his level high if he is a good pro. He will probably get his move eventually even if it's not this year.
Barry will be mad with Villa but what will he think of us now.
The games against them next year will be ferocious.

ITS NOT ABOUT JUDGEMENT ON THE PLAYER, ITS ABOUT VILLA ASKING FOR TOO MUCH MONEY

..and quite rightly so too. The need for Keane was bigger than for Bazza.

Now let's flog Voronin & Pennant & try to get a decent creative player in. Rafa is aware we're short of left-sided players, so I worry we night go for Downing.
