I think anyone with any sense can clearly see that we have been trying to negotiate a lower price. Nothing wrong with that at all. Aston Villa are the club that will lose credibility. They have a player who has given them 10 years service and now they are stopping him from moving on by putting a ridiculous value on him
how have villa lost credibility they've still got the player they don't want to sell and barry being professional will just get on with his job.yet liverpool have spent 2 months trying to sign a player who they knew was valued at 18mil and were reported to have the money in place a week ago.yet a week b4 the new season we decide he is overpriced,i'd say it's liverpool who have lost the credibility.

Jamie Carragher played through the pain of broken ribs for most of the first 4 months of the season. He was also handicapped by having to play too many games because Agger was out. Cut the guy some slack. You are being really naive on that issue

MON is not a winner here. He may get to keep his captain but the guy has given his all for Villa for 10 years and has been treated **** by MON this summer. MON is a ****** and everyone can see it
I know MON is a ****** and Xabi broke his foot twice and had to play beside Sissoko during the time his form was off
Carra is a legend but he is not above criticism. Villa set a fair price and it's the going rate for International midfielders especially in the English market.
We got 11m for Crouch who had a year left on his contract. We are well able to play hardball when we want to too.
Oh the man is a midfield maestro
and his passes are sooo delightful

I would say there are many Scum, Chav and Gooners absolutely gutted that we have not spent 18m on Barry, and let Alonso go.

If this is the final outcome of the saga, I am quite happy as I think it would be a waste of 18mil. Hopefully the money can be better spend now, say on a winger such as Silva or any other creative proven winger for that matter.

... which is based on how much you think the player is worth to your team or what the alternatives are.

I just think that if Rafa really wanted him and figured it would improve the team, then he has his reasons even if not everybody agrees with him.

Many fans and the Yanks don't believe he is worth it. Clearly Rafa, who was prepared to offload Alonso to get him in, was willing to use that budget on him as opposed to Silva or Quaresma or whoever.

The money was coming from Alonso's sale so there is none.
Rafa will have to sell to buy.

Personally I'd prefer to go with Rafa's judgement on players rather than theirs.

Imagine if Pennant and Kuyt were to get the same shouts at every game they played.

Everybody knows how much The Kop can lift a players game but the player also needs to be motivated everytime they pull on that red shirt.

Xabi was playing like Gerrard last night running from pillar to post to take the corners, his passing was just like we remembered.

It could have had something to do with Masch coming in.

Keane was buzzing last night, running round like a man possesed and almost trying to hard.

Hardly a mention of his name apart from a few OOT giving it a bit of Keano, Keano.

Xabi is a world class player and I think Rafa thought that the Juve deal was done and dusted hence the full blown attatck for Barry.

Lets not jump the gun here guys with regards to Rafa and the owners because for all we know it could be a cleaver plan by everyone to get Villa to drop their price. I think rafa has a replacement in mind anyway so we should still see a player or two come in.

                            brilliant statement.

rafa, 2 yanks and parry all agreed on this. wouldnt have been done publicly unless that was the case.

rafa wants barry, for sure. we all do. but im convinced everyone - rafa, owners, parrry and fans all think he's too over priced. by that i mean if we wanted to pay a may of 15 but they wanted min of 16 then it'd have happened. the extra 3 mill can be put to much better use.

Its an F Off to Villa for sure and if they want to take the p1ss with valuations, this is the risk they're taking. good luck with the unhappy barry MON.

Without a statement like this, i'd agree we look like a bunch of tight assholes. but now we've clearly just decided that enough is enough, we have the ability to get the cash together but werent happy with the price. nothing wrong with that.

however i think this spells the end of the deal tho. as we're basically telling barry that he's not worth it...

The way I see it is that Rafa was sure he would sell Xabi and that he would get Barry with the money. Probably told the yanks this and then Alonso stays so the yanks say no Barry. The only way Barry was coming was if Xabi left.
Rafa was trying to be clever saying he needed Barry for the left yesterday then. Even the yanks are not that stupid and know Barry is not a wide player.
