Hope your right, but the evidence suggests otherwise, one great season, then teams worked out how to minimise his effectiveness, as far as i know no-ones done that to Barry in his time in the prem, he is ultra consistent at what he does.

Oh and there is nothing wrong with our manager telling our midfielder that he hasnt been performing well enough and would be sold at the right price. Thats football. Players come, players go. The manager decides. Alonso is professional enough to understand this

I have been one of the biggest critics of the proposal to sell Xabi to fund an £18m purchase of Barry, and I too felt that was an exorbitantly high price to pay for someone who is unproven at the highest level especially given our financial plight, but we all know if this was Man U or chelsea they would pay the price and not blink. In the last couple of years Man U have spent £18m on Hargreaves, a further £18m on Carrick, and £30m on Nani and Anderson. We pissed ourselves laughing at the fact that they've overspent, but in that time they've won 2 league titles and the CL. Truth is, if "Liverpool " feel the valuation is too high then this is another example of the yanks not backing their manager and does not sit at all with their promises of Snoogy Doogy, player-specific budgets and getting any player the manager wants. Rafa won't put up with this nonsense and meddling for much longer. We'll come to the point soon where it will either be the yanks who are gone, or Rafa, because the status quo simply won't stand.

I've been sitting here with my businessmans hat and on and have been able to rationalize not getting Barry in.

But you are right. Nail on head. The Glazers would have found a way to make it happen.

All of this bull**** about Rafa being messed about is bolocks because he had the cash and preferred to splash it on Keane. If Rafa wanted to blow £18mill on Barry he could have done so, the fact that he hasnt shows that he is a sensible guy and we all should know that hes no pushover from his Valencia days. Rafa is in the know on this im certain so in fact this statement is designed to push Villa into accepting a reduced fee or to tell everyone that we are moving onto someone else.
                Either way life goes on.

Thats my take on it. I think we have played this right. Everyone knows Barry is overpriced, with Villa looking like they giving up on Barry we should try to bring the price down. I can see this going down to the last day of the window.

That's not what souliv is saying. He's just pointing out that the way things are between Rafa and the owners at the moment that the press will be making up that kind of **** all the way through the season. So those hoping for a quiet time, be aware. Won't happen.

i believe rafa and yanks are in agreement on this because, quite simply, barry was never anticipated to cost more than 3mill above alonso. its revealed that financially, the way things stand at the moment, we're approximately 8mill net worse off than rafa had envisaged. if rafa values alonso at 25 mill thats because he knows he's a great player but a) isnt suited to the premiership and b) has quite possibly been less than loyal.

because of that, any manager would have had to reassess. simple as that. he's not an idiot who'd blame what is caused by villa's stance on the yanks. why would he? they'll have all agreed a plan of action in the summer and this one's clearly not worked out for reasons other than the yanks. end of story. time to shift our focus and our statement is a final offer. drop your price or we're off.

regarding bascomes story. that also supports rafa in a smoke n mirrors way: in that its revealed that alonso was disloyal to us. rafa would want that out after being told by fans to shove barry up his arse because we want alonso to stay. well rafa would want it leaked that alonso wants to leave liverpool to stop rafa being seen as the bad guy and his plan to recruit barry being criticised left, right and centre.
