ffs some really defensive people on here lately. no one was bashing kuyt but rather asking for a comparative. In my opinion there is more creativity in the dutch team than ours which is why kuyt's attributes add balance and are appreciated more. In our team kuyt's lack of guile, touch, pace and flair just adds to the similar deficiencies we had on show in most of the other areas of the pitch last night.

Why does Kuyt look so good for the Dutch and so poor for us

The Dutch are a technically better side, we just launch it so a lot of Kuyt's work is pointless as he runs around and we don't have decent possession of the ball.
Carra should learn to pass the ball 10-15 yards, it really isn't that hard. The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Wash your mouth out with soap and water - you are not allowed to criticize Carra in any way, shape or form on these forums (even when he plays bloody awful!!!)Originally posted by The Birdman View PostThe Dutch are a technically better side, we just launch it so a lot of Kuyt's work is pointless as he runs around and we don't have decent possession of the ball.

That could be said of all our players last night. It was an extremely poor performance from every quarter (bar Reina) and in every facet of our play, passing, tackling, communication, movement, cohesion etc, etc
On the plus side I think we've seen Standard Liege for what they are, hard work and in your face but not too much quality about them otherwise and I really can't see anything but a comfortable win at Anfield.

Anfield will be a whole different kettle o fish.Originally posted by Assassin View PostExactly the same thought as many others in the first leg
A number of those who under performed last night will be steppping out at Anfield with a point to prove. Granted they should have done that last night but for reasons that escape me it never happened.
Anfield will see a RED HOT atmosphere and an LFC cavalry charge from the off and we'll see how Liege stand up to the barrage.
I've a feeling they won't.

Yeah I know, I'm not bothered about his performance because I know he's quality and will produce but no-one can convince me Torres and Keane appreciate the ball being lumped up to them the whole time, he's got Xabi in front of him and Agger alongside, give the ball to one of those 2 and let them pass it.Originally posted by cled the red View PostWash your mouth out with soap and water - you are not allowed to criticize Carra in any way, shape or form on these forums (even when he plays bloody awful!!!)

Kuyt looked good in the group games in Euro 2008 because his work-rate and strength compared favourably to the opponents he came up against. Even then he got subbed early against France to give the Dutch more pace and skill on the flanks.
Against Russia he was disappointing for me, largely because of their excellent full-backs. Indeed he got subbed off at half-time if I remember rightly?
Last night he came up against a solid LB who he couldn't physically best, either in terms of pace or strength or even in the air. As such he was completely nullified.

He really hasn't. He had a nice header to setup Torres for his goal in Norway but apart from that he's been pretty average. No goals either compared to Yossi who has bagged some despite often playing on his less favoured left side.Originally posted by ufc43 View PostKuyt has played well on the wing pre season. Although cant see him scoring too many goals from there.
You know since the 13th of December last year Kuyt has played in 31 competitive games for us and scored just 4 goals.

I thought Carra's passing was fairly good last night and he retained the ball by passing it sideways to the free Agger for the majority of the game. It was Agger that kept giving the ball away, mainly as he had no targets to pick out.Originally posted by The Birdman View PostYeah I know, I'm not bothered about his performance because I know he's quality and will produce but no-one can convince me Torres and Keane appreciate the ball being lumped up to them the whole time, he's got Xabi in front of him and Agger alongside, give the ball to one of those 2 and let them pass it.
I was hoping that somehow after the Euro's and his decent finish to the season that Kuyt would come back refreshed and full of confidence. But once again he was ****. People told me we couldn't play a fast attacking game with Crouch in the team, how are we ever to be a fast attacking passing team with Kuyt in it? Effort aside, he's woeful at best. Saying that he wasn't the worst player out there, that would have to be the £20M boy.
I find it hard to accept/understand why we look so ordinary at times, in fact occasionally like last night we look very poor, yet no matter who seems to play for arsenal or Utd they all seem to love the ball and are comfortable on it. Oh well. Onwards and upwards.Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back. Oscar Wilde
