Carra always starts the season slowly.

That's happened so rarely that we all remember when it has happened e.g. Henry. So I think your fretting about nothing.

Remember that the key to the high-line and the threaded ball is not the central defenders at all. It is El Jefecito / Lucas preventing it in the first place and Pepe sweeping when it happens.

TBH I can't think of very many goals that we have conceded in the fashion you describe. Do I just have a selective memory or can you rattle a few off.

Carra is our best defender / stopper. He gets a lot of stick for his distribution, but TBH I don't blame him for that, any system which calls for primary distribution coming from him is flawed. Agger/Alonso/Lucas/... should be the ones initiating the play.

Maybe Carra is fulfilling that role because they haven't asserted themselves and he feels he needs to take responsibility, which you know he will do.

Still it is early doors and may just prove to be a bit of ring rust for carra.
The minute I saw this section of your post is the minute it didn't matter to me what you thought. How can you question the form of a man who last season scored 23 goals and got 22 assists (They probably aren't the correct figures but they are there or there about!)? What the **** do you actually want from the guy?

I really hope I have missed some sort of wind up here. If so I am sorry. If not, get a grip of your self you idiot.

Also I would like to point out that (IMO) the people on here puting Carra down have not got a clue. Carra's only problem is his distribution. In every other factor of his game he is virtually spot on. I agree that it is hard to choose between him Skrtel and Agger but onnly because it s hard to choose which one of Skrtel and Agger should be laying along side of him.

I could not disagree with you more. Lack of pace means nothing. If that's the case then let's get rid of both Sami and Carra and forget how good people like Tony Adams were when they lost their pace.

Carra's experience and ability to read a game along side Skrtel or Agger will be very important for us this season. Carra is still very much our first choice centre back in my eyes.

TBF, Carra's overall level dropped a notch or two last season. That's where a lot of the negativity comes from. But I'm with you, even at that lower level he is still the best stopper we have. And that is just looking at it from a technical perspective.

My question is. What would Skrtel need to add to our game to justify subtracting Carra's a) leadership b) organization c) the never say die attitude that permeates through the team d) etc etc

I think Carra,Skittles and Agger will be rotated equally depending on who we play.Carra will play in most of the big games.

It'll be interesting to see how it plays out. But Agger has the advantage, he is the only playmaker in the defensive unit. So he may get more games.

In all of the BIG games though, Carra will be first on the team sheet. IMO.

For the big games I think we might see Carra out on the right like we did for the champs league last year. Think Rafa will play them like Fergi and go for the 1-0 win against the top sides.

I see the logic, but I think we have enough in midfield to cover defensively, that we can afford to use the "wing backs" more often than not.
