Yesterday reminded me of his free-kick against Villa last year on opening day that rescued the 3 points.Originally posted by Matt View PostHe's the only player I would have wanted to be where he was standing when the ball dropped yesterday.
He's got us out of jail again although on the whole I think he was pretty poor."These stories have as much relation to the truth as an egg to a chestnut." - Racing Santander President Francisco Pernia

Originally posted by MrMichael View PostAnyway, as has already been said, we don't give a rats ass about England. He's a bloody marvel for us (even if he was out of sorts for 80 minutes today)

The winning goal and the free kick he took just before was pure class, the adrenalin that must have been flowing as the ball came to him, i thought for a sec he was going to blast, but i think the defenders closing him down as he shaped to hit... almost picked his spot for him..........terrific well placed strike, worthy of being a winning goal.

the only thing I'd like to see him add to that list is to see him score the winning goal to bring us the title. And of course see him score a in a CL Final in Rome too....Originally posted by ShaggyAlonso View PostYou might think he's overrated mate (which he isn't), but how about this.
Gerrard has scored in:
Champions League final
FA Cup final (including last kick wonder goal)
UEFA Cup final
League Cup final
World Cup finals
You know what they say about big players and big games. It's when the greats come into their own.
Unless of course they were all flukes

I hear you man, I've cussed him a lot over the past year, even suggested that we would be better of if we sold him, that he just hasnt done it for us for 2 yrs, that his poor performances (like yesterday) are common place now.Originally posted by Marky View PostIm sorry for all the slagging man, i really am.
I actually love the fella believe it or not.
He brings joy to my world and he's my hero, i just expect too much off him sometimes.
What about that finish today lads??
Only Stevie G could do that in the 94th minute. He really is a hero.
Ste Gerrard, Gerrard
But **** me when the ball drops 20yds out, with seconds remaining, there's only one guy I'd want running on to it.
"Who's your Daddy now?"

He really didn't look 100% yesterday and, at the moment, I think he and Keane sometimes try and occupy the same space behind Torres hence the lack of passing options for Xabi (deliberately ignoring the wings debate). This will improve shortly and we saw flashes of it against 'boro' but when Mascha rejoins it could all change anyway. We could well start to see this formation if no other winger comes in...
-------------Torres---------
--------Keane--------------
Babel?---------------Gerrard
-----Alonso--Mascha-------
Babel being interchangeable with Benny of course.

if we had the balls we'd just let gerrard do what he wants and build a team around him. his position for us last year gave him the freedom to do whatever he liked and he rose to the occasion.
the keane signing is increasingly puzzling imo. gerrard on the right is not the same as the front of an attacking 3.

Hopefully with Masch back we might see both Keane and Gerrard operate behind Torries.Originally posted by rage View Postif we had the balls we'd just let gerrard do what he wants and build a team around him. his position for us last year gave him the freedom to do whatever he liked and he rose to the occasion.

Don't see a lot of need for two holding midfielders against most teams in the league, especially at home and when we've got one of the best in the world anyway.

Steven Gerrard believes he is some weeks away from full fitness. Reds boss Rafa Benitez admitted earlier this week Gerrard was not at his best after missing a chunk of pre-season with a groin injury.
The England international concedes he is not firing on all cylinders as he is behind in his fitness.
Problems
"I've had problems with my groin throughout pre-season, and things have not gone the way I wanted them to," said Gerrard.
"I have missed a lot of training and I am a couple of weeks behind the other lads when it comes to match fitness.
"The only way I am going to get that edge again is to get out on the pitch and play.
"I am not at my best at the moment, but I hope the fans will be patient because I am only three weeks away from my best form and fitness."
Praise
Meanwhile, Gerrard has backed Liverpool's battling qualities after they staged a dramatic late comeback to overcome Middlesbrough 2-1 at Anfield.
Gerrard grabbed the winner deep into injury-time and the midfield dynamo knows they must win their home games if they are to challenge for the Premier League title.
"You could tell how much our winner meant to the fans, the roof came off when my goal went in," he continued.
"Everyone knows that these are the games we have to win if we are going to mount a serious title challenge. Too many home points were squandered last season."
Oh the man is a midfield maestro
and his passes are sooo delightful
everyone wants to know
