    is agger out again ???
"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

      Nah, he's 100% fit.

Over the course of the season I can see Carra being shifted to right back and Agger slotting in alongside Skrtel.

go hell for leather at the whinging *******s team. ben onion up with keane behind torres to try and take some pressure off him.

wouldnt mind seeing ngog given a go as well as he wasnt bad pre season
Playing a back three would reek of the Reading game last season. Playing into the strengths of Young and to a degree Agbonlahor running from wide areas and exposing ourselves entirely. For me a key thing is to start to getting a settled back four (and ideally six including the two CMs).

            I'd go with:

            Reina
            Arbeloa Carra Skrtel Dossena
            Mascherano Alonso
            Kuyt Keane Babel
            Torres

The same team might well line up with a 4-4-2 look but the difference without Gerrard should IMO be minimal.

Agger cannot play because villa are strong and quick up top.

Aurelio played very well lasy night

Kuyt has the work rate to scupper ashley young

I think he will push Carra to RB, partly because of Young and partly because of Dagger.

I expect the following line up:

                -----------------------------------Reina

                Carragher-----------Skyrtel-------------------Agger--------------Aurelio

                Kuyt-----------------Alonso--------------Mascher--------------Babel

                --------------------Keane-----------------Torres

                  ----------Reina------------
                  Carra-Skrtel-Agger-Dossena
                  ------Mascher-Alonso------
                  ---Kuyt---Keane---Babel---
                  ----------Torres-----------

Carra for Arbeloa as Carra will offer more against Young, with the more pacy Skrtel and Agger in the middle to take care of Agbong...and Skrtel to power through Carew!

After our first few games this season, i made a few observations:
                      1) Torres is more effective playing alone with a support striker rather a than in a traditional 4-4-2. During the Euros, he looked more effective when Villa did not play due to suspension/or injury.

                      2) SG is better closer to the striker so if Keane is the support striker, i would like to think he will be very effective on the right. He can get around players, shoot, come inside and also smart enough to look for gaps which someone like Alonso can pick out...similar to 2004? He looked lost in CM role in the first few games so far and we really looked inbalance.

Just my humble thoughts, not sure what you guys think.
                      We going to win #19th!!

I think we need Agger to play in this one if fully fit.

I think we have to go back to 4-2-3-1 now we have Mascherano back we have the players to play it, ideally Gerrard would be fit but Keane can play the Gerrard role:

                            -----------Reina
                            Arbeloa Carra Skrtel Dossena
                            -----Mascherano Alonso
                            Kuyt---- Keane ---- Babel
                            ---------Torres

But we also need Skrtlel, who is our best defender at the moment. Carra on the right, or on the bench?

On the right, cos he inspires more confidence in me against the pacey wingers, defensively at least.

Plus when he gets forward hee's got a wicked shot on him
