It wont, but it would solve the problem.

Imagine a league where teams are rewarded for developing players themselves, where most teams have a chance to win.

Football at the moment is getting boring/depressing. Same teams every year, and the gap is only getting wider.

Its never going to happen though

I agree, football has taken a massive turn for the worse over the last few years but there isn't alot we can do about it.

We have to move forward with DIC (hopefully) or else LFC will get left behind and the legend of Liverpool will turn into another Nottingham Forest. We must always keep moving forward. Stand still and you get left behind

I am not saying it will make it better, merely thats the way it is going.

What happens when you have 5 or 6 super rich clubs fighting for 4 trophies? Is it really much different to what has gone on in the past?

            Agree with this completely

Our big problem is that we sold our soul AND got a really bad deal for it. Some people may be uneasy with the thought of us as a rich man's plaything (I am too) but whats the alternative? If we're not careful the days of only finishing 4th will seem like a pipe dream

Are Barcelona the blueprint for reclaiming a clubs 'soul'? Not too familiar with their corporate structure apart from awareness of them being 'members club' (whatever that means).

Aswell as looking at wage/transfer caps should we (FIFA, UEFA etc) not be looking at the whole concept of ownership? Is there a case for limits on shareholdings in any one club? Can appreciate it may not be practical and may some may argue it could destabilise a club but lets face it your not best served by the one majority shareholder at present or are you?

There could even be a case for Govt coming in and regulating TV Broadcasting rights? Lets face it most of the money & returns these guys are buying into PL clubs for is supplied by Sky, Setanta etc so why not regulate that?

              Food for thought thats all.

*That said - look at AFC Liverpool....

AFC Liverpool will be the first of many in the coming years at this rate.

Definitely agree. Its so disheartening seeing all the money and even the players acting the big i am. ****s sakes. Dont get me wrong im as hopeful of us getting a super rich owner as i have always been but there really is no doubt that football for the masses has turned a huge corner and is no longer the game it once was.

                  Real crying shame.

To compete we will need to go the dic route.

To regain our soul we need to go the share liverpool route.

                      The money bubble will burst.

The people who are currently fuelling it are the fans who buy the tickets, the merchandise and most importantly the TV subscriptions.

The Glazers, Hick/Gillette and Abu Dhabi are not in this for a laugh. They are not philanthropists. Chelsea and Manure with combined debt of 1.2 billion plus prove that.

I have said in previous threads that I would much prefer Liverpool sit back and watch from the sidelines while these clubs spend themselves to death. What glory is there in winning the league just because you've got the most money. It's fantasy bollocks.

Feeling very depressed about football at the minute. It's no longer the game I fell in love with in the early 80s.

My love for LFC will never die but I feel my love for top-flight football is dying a slow and painful death. I'm not sure how these two mindsets can survive alongside one and other.

I desperately want Dubai to take over LFC but even if it happens and we win the league under them, although of course I would at first be joyous, I have a feeling it may be a rather empty, hollow joy. It's depressing. As 'RoadEnd' says above, where's the satisfaction and the glory in winning the title if you're multi-billionaires? Or trillionaires...

That just about sums it up for me too.

I posted more or less the same about a year ago, and now feel even sicker at the state of premier league football. I will always feel passionate about Liverpool but know it's now just a fiction, a rich man's construct. I am far more interested in what's happening down in lower leagues where the football's real, and have enjoyed following the fortunes of Bournemouth (girlfriend's dads team), Macclesfield (friend at work's team), Salisbury and Weymouth (places we regularly visit). And AFC Liverpool

AFC Liverpool will do well with new fans because of this ****ing disaster that we call Liverpool F.C.

wouldn't it be great to get rid of the transfer fee or atleast have a fee for players moving up a division only.

I was still youngish when we got sponsored, wonder if there was an internet then if it would of been though of similar.

For me the worse thing for footy has been sky
Its times like these we learn to live again FF
