I think the answer to that is no.

Back then all we had was a porta cabin outside Anfield selling programs.

    Littlewoods made our money

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

We were owned by one of the country's richest families who invested in the club. I can't see the difference from Man City now to us back then, except that the investment is coming from global sources and the returns are so much bigger. I'm all for the good old days too, and believe that the money is no good for the sport, but all clubs have an equal right to be at the top of the pile, financially, and the benefits that it brings. My point was that when we were the richest club we won the most trophies. At that time the likes of Portsmouth and West Brom couldn't compete with us, and probably resented us just as much as we now resent Man City and Chelsea.

We either shun the sport, get used to it or try to compete and in my opinion, if we're prepared to get in to bed with a rich investor then it makes us just as bad.

I just think we're exhibiting a bit of double standards, not you personally of course

If we want parity with the richest clubs then surely we should be equally prepared to accept parity with the poorest clubs. That's the socialist way, no?

had it not been for bad management, ill-judged signings and a refusal to move foward in business terms we'd never have loosened our grip on english football as easily.

All this talk about us being victims of the new money in football is getting tiresome. It's hypocritical, if we had the money we'd be revelling in it. When we had the money we revelled in it
              It's about proportion.

The biggest spenders nowadays are able to spend 2 or 3 times the amount that their biggest rivals spend, let alone the rest of the league.

It's not a complicated point to understand.

This was the team I grew up with really, in my teens I went to every match home and away from about 86-91. Barnsey was just a genius!!!

We're still amongst the biggest spenders which enables us to almost guarantee that we'll be amongst the top 4-5 clubs at the end of the season. Don't you think that that puts us in a privileged position then?

I'm not talking about privileged positions though. I'm saying it was never the case that the top club spent 3 times what the second club did.

Nowadays, it is the case. Hence my reference to how it's now different.

I grew up watching Liverpool play like that every week. In my mind we should play like that every time we go out on the pitch. Don't know what it is, either the players were better back then or they just cared more and it wasn't about the money. Unfortunately I think its a bit of both.

Will we ever see the likes of Barnes, Beardsley & Aldo playing for us again??
Jellyfish are 97% water or something, so how much are they doing? Just give them another 3% and make them water. It's more useful

Manchester United did not spend 3 times what Chelsea did. You're suffering from Chicken Licken syndrome worrying about the amount that Man City can spend.

You've actually not got a clue what i'm on about, have you?

Chelsea have spent about £350m on players in 3 years.

How much have Manchester spent in that time? About a third, no?

You're quoting the sums, you tell me! Then I might be able to make an argument FFS!

If what you're saying is that Chelsea have a massive spending budget, 3 times their nearest rival, and that their spending power is ruining football, then why did Man Utd beat them in the CL final and win the league last year?

That argument is a bit like saying if Wigan beat Man Utd and then Spurs beat Wigan, it means spurs are better than United.

It also implies that the biggest spenders will always win the title, regardless of how well they spend, who they buy, how good their manager is, and how well he gets the team performing.

The fact of the matter is Chelsea HAVE spent three times the amount Man Utd have in the last few years, and whilst there's always been a 'biggest spender', they have never previous spent 3 times the amount spent by the 2nd biggest spenders.

I cant believe such a simple issue is causing so much confusion

It is the sad the current state of the game. I remember growing up and listening to Liverpool games on the radio in the car coming back home from a Saturday day out with the parents, I feel like it's all dissapeared now, all the nostalgia. Look at the fans going ape **** on those clips, you don't get that anymore. The real fans have gone and are lost forever never to return as is our great club.

I used to remember listening to 5 live when players like fat Mickey Quinn and Mark Robins were about and the great LFC players like Barnes and Beardsley. Now Sky's took over it's all about the money, commentators talking the same **** every week, Gillette soccer Saturday talking the same **** every week.

What a mess it is now, it makes me sad. I guess it's cos I'm getting older but it's a mess. The whole world is a mess in general, so much has changed even from just 10-15 years ago. Things aren't the same, the world's turned into a nasty place, everything's so PC. Soliders getting blown to ****, suicide bombers, racists everywhere. Everyone wants to lead the good life, the world is a nasty place full of horrible cunts and I'm not just talking about Utd fans.

I wish Gene Hunt was still around to sort the *******s out.
Klopp on LFC vs MUFC (March 9th 2016) - "This is why I love football. This is why we watched it when we were young. I can still not have enough of it."
