Let's get a few facts straight before this thread goes out of control.

Rafa pros.

1. Fantastic signings in Agger, Skrtel, Mascherano, Torres, Reina, Alonso, Garcia, Crouch and Keane - I think the jury is out on the rest - all 40 of them.

2. He was 1 point behind Man United 2 seasons ago and has spent considerably more only to fall further behind.

3. He has spend more money than ANY OTHER CLUB this past 18 months.

4. He has spent more than Wenger and Fergie since 2004.

5. He has won more with Houllier's "duds" than he has with his own.

6. Man United won nothing and spent **** all in Rafa first few years here, while Rafa was dismantling Houllier's squad (which IMO needed evolution not a revolution).

Correct 100% true - so why then did he need to spend a further £200m on a squad who were good enough to win big trophies? Why not keep them as squad players and improve the first team as opposed to buying 50 players, where only 10 of which were an improvement?

You are talking about 2001. I am talking about 2005 and 2006. You have ignored the dross GH subjected us to the years in between. Conveniently.

I half agree with what you say. I think players like Diao, Diouf, Cheyrou, Dudek, Baros, La Tallec aswell as a lot of fringe players had to go as they were not good enough. I also think that Rafa brought in a large amount of players equally as poor. I do think his transfer dealing have improved the last 2 seasons though.
