To be honest, i think 'slagging off' comments towards rafa have been few and far between. People have criticised some of his decisions, but there hasnt been any major example of people being 'abusive' or 'slagging him' off.

The 'backers' of rafa take any critical comment as a 'slagging off' which it isnt.

Likewise, they say how they dont like hearing the same criticisms over and over again on every thread, which is fair enough. At the same time, they offer the same excuses (if you call them that), defensive arguments in rafa's favour and the same points over and over again too.

Both are tiresome.

Agree that both are tiresome, and to be honest its not that I think Rafa is above criticism, far from it in fact, its the seeming glee and vitriol they post with that annoys me.

I think the 'glee' and 'vitriol' is half imagined, to be honest.

But i agree, it should be warmer. It isnt because people cannot tolerate a difference of opinion and respond to it with abusive replies. And in all honesty, it's been more the rafa 'backers' than his critics who i've seen do that.

Rafa and Wengers transfer policy has never been to recrut the £30m players for the simple fact their respective clubs cannot afford them.

Obviousley we have to face the fact there is going to be a 'big 5' now and 4 into 5 doesn't go. Chelsea and ManU are going to be the 2 directly affected as City will go for the same players - i.e. Berbatov and Robhino. Can you imagine the ManU or Chelsea team if everytime one of their no 1 targets was getting snapped up?

Iv got a feeling Rafa and Wenger will just go about their everyday business as usual. In fact i seriousley wouldn't be surprised if next season it was infact ManU missing out on the top 4 due to an imbalanced team, as a result of them not being to buy the players they want.

Of course it affects Rafa, MAYBE not in terms of transfer targets (but i'm not sure i'd be so confident there either), but it'll affect him because, over the course of time, if City start signing top players, they're likely to end up having a better and stronger team than us. It'll affect us as a club in a big way, though probably not for a couple of years.

Yes i agree. But instead of £6m for Yossi and £7m for Pennant and £6m for Lucas and £10m for Kuyt, he would've had £29m and could've spent 'top dollar' with that - and done well with it.

It's plain for everyone to see that when it comes to the £5m-£10m bracket, we've not had much success. Arguably you could say that you dont always get top quality for that kind of money which leads me to wonder why we dont just save the few lots of £6m and buy one top quality £15m-£20m player with it.

While I agree with that to an extent, if you take that those players out and spend that £29m on a top quality right winger, what happens if that player gets injured? we then have no cover for that position, we have 3 less players in our squad, and a couple more injuries and we're down to the bones.

You dont have to spend it all on one player. Just identify a top player and pay what it takes. If he gets injured, that's life unfortunately. Torres is injured now, but that doesnt mean we shouldnt have bought him, does it? Injuries are part and parcel, there's always a risk and you dont NOT sign players just because they could get injured. It'd be like not leaving your house, because you could get run over.

I dont think we're better off with average players, i think we're better off with the top class player, even WITH the (minimal) risk of him getting a major injury.

The point is, i think in most cases, some of the kids could do just as good a job as the average players who dont offer much, in my view.
