Time for me to bow out.No matter what you say in this thread the usual suspects will continue to try and justify their negative thoughts while ignoring the majority who understand how it`s near impossible to win the league this season when Chelsea and ManU play on an uneven field for differing reasons.Sarb,Rash and Rage won`t listen because the truth will take away their reason for posting on here. They don`t want to hear the truth.

"Impossible to challenge for the league" is what Rafa wants us to believe and what Houllier wanted us to believe. Liverpool fans and Liverpool managers should not be defeatist like that, that's disgraceful.
Before I bow out of this argument I ask you this - how much NET did Fergie spend in 2006 to catch Chelsea?

As Jack Nicholson said to Tom Cruise...you can't handle the truthOriginally posted by Johnny View PostTime for me to bow out.No matter what you say in this thread the usual suspects will continue to try and justify their negative thoughts while ignoring the majority who understand how it`s near impossible to win the league this season when Chelsea and ManU play on an uneven field for differing reasons.Sarb,Rash and Rage won`t listen because the truth will take away their reason for posting on here. They don`t want to hear the truth.
4 years and £200m later (£100m net) we have not mounted a serious challenge for the title. At a big club like LFC that's not good enough.

Sadly your one off those that think a great club like Liverpool has a devine right to be the best in england and don`t realise that challenging against ManU and Chelsea invarably means coming 3rd/4th until we have the backing to compete for the best players in the transfer market.Originally posted by Sarb24 View PostAs Jack Nicholson said to Tom Cruise...you can't handle the truth

What was Cruises response???Didn`t he put Nicholson in jail???

It has nothing to do with Rafa, he wanted his transfers done quick but Parry had other plans. Kuyt does a good job on the right, I definately wouldnt call it folly. Benny on the left was once again due to Rafa not being provided with the players he wanted in time.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostHaving nobody to play on the left is partly down to the manager, but in truth, i'm not making judgements on this season yet, it's too early.
Really cant be bothered anymore we all seem to be going round in circles, will just have to wait and see how it goes.

The same argument can easily be reversed. No matter what anyone says, you and the backers will refuse to acknowledge where rafa has gone wrong and the mistakes he makes (often the same mistakes repeated). You wont listen because the truth will take away your head-in-sand perspective. You dont want to hear the truth.Originally posted by Johnny View PostTime for me to bow out.No matter what you say in this thread the usual suspects will continue to try and justify their negative thoughts while ignoring the majority who understand how it`s near impossible to win the league this season when Chelsea and ManU play on an uneven field for differing reasons.Sarb,Rash and Rage won`t listen because the truth will take away their reason for posting on here. They don`t want to hear the truth.
See, it's silly.
You see it as completely black and white, the 'truth' is simply the defence of rafa and any mistakes he makes.
The actual truth is more grey, he's done a lot of good and that's what's lead to high expectations. Likewise, he makes a lot of what seem to be silly mistakes and this leaves us still without a title challenge.
It's not black and white.

Rafa has been provided with players which he decided to buy, and which have been more or less ineffective.Originally posted by Woobus View PostIt has nothing to do with Rafa, he wanted his transfers done quick but Parry had other plans. Parry's made mistakes too, as have the board, but rafa isnt innocent of any mistakes, like you paint him out to be.
He wanted Pennant, he chose to spend £10m on Kuyt, £7m on Pennant, £6m on Lucas, £6m on Yossi.
He could have chosen to spend that £29m on a big, top quality signing, but he chose not to.
I'll tell you how it will go, the same will probably keep happening, we'll probably not challenge and in maybe 3 years time, the same people will be blindly ignoring the mistakes of another manager, while simultaneously saying how he is paying for rafa's expensive mistakes.

Nobody thinks there's any divine right, they just want better players bought for the money we spend. As i've said, if rafa signs quality over quantity and it still doesnt work, then fair enough, he will have tried both ways. He has tried the quantity route and it has failed to bring a title challenge, so perhaps it's time to try the other way and see if that works.Originally posted by Johnny View PostSadly your one off those that think a great club like Liverpool has a devine right to be the best in england and don`t realise that challenging against ManU and Chelsea invarably means coming 3rd/4th until we have the backing to compete for the best players in the transfer market.

Nothing to do with divine right, just make better decisions and see where it may lead. Nobody's saying we have to win it, but challenging is not beyond us, nor is it impossible.

Just to throw a question into the mixer here
When Rafa won the title with Valencia he beat Real Madrid and Barcelona. They used to spend money left right and centre ala Chelsea and Man Utd. However, he still managed to win the title twice. At that point wasn't he saying it's not always about the money you spend and you can spend what you like and you still have the possibility of not winning the title.
Now, why can he not do this at Liverpool? Why is other teams spending now the reason we aren't challenging? If he can do it with Valencia why not with us?
Is it to do with the different league and different tactics/mentality required which aren't in line with the way he likes his teams to play?

far tougher league, with a hell of a lot more money being spent ?Originally posted by Sarb24 View PostJust to throw a question into the mixer here

Who should he have kept as squad players. Cisse, Baros, Diouf, Cheyrou, Kewell, JAR, Murphy, Hamann....etc FFS our wage bill for the subs bench would have been as much as the 1st eleven. Unfortunately football is a business these days Rash and Rafa would not be allowed the luxury of wasting so much money!!Originally posted by Rashid View PostThe point is that it's always difficult to win trophies but to say that Houllier's duds who won a European Cup and an FA Cup were not even good enough to be reserves and squad players is ridiculous.
Rafa didn't need to buy 50 players, keeping 20 and buying 20 good ones would have sufficed. That way he could have bought better quality without obsessing over squad players and then moaning about our rivals spending big one ONE player etc.Dare we believe
