£5mil upfront rising to £12m was the price. And the way he's going Arsenal will pay the full £12mil. I'm no Parry fan but did we really have £12mil to spend on completely unproven talent in 2005/2006?

For the money being talked about at the time, I don't think it was worth the gamble.

Well I doubt that 1 season before they were willing to take less than half what they'll now get for him, no matter what the Standard says.

Even if it is accurate, did we really have £5mil to spend on an even less proven talent than he was a year later (he can't even have played much for So'ton at that point) when Rafa was having to wheel and deal with his Owen money plus a bit more to get us Xabi and Luis? I don't think we did personally mate.

Didn't he join Arsenal because Henry was his hero?

You got a copy of that article, cos it's sounds more like that lad that moved from Cardiff to Arsenal??

I seem to remember Walcott being £5 mil rising to something daft??

Still, at least we agree that Parry is a bit of a **** when it comes to negotiations on occassion

And their record with youth development.

It seemed nailed-on for a while that he was going to Arsenal, with us being talked about as outside runners due to his love of the club. I hate to say it, but he probably made the right choice.

Was that the season before he made his debut?? if he had made his debut that year then £3.5m rising was massively over the top at the time.

                              Sack parry anyway though.

that is really depressing, the lad has shown massive improvement in his game and can only get better. I dont base this on last nights games but his performance over the past few months. We saw it first hand when he caned out defence in the CL quarters and set up Adebayors goal. A real talent is developing at Arsenal, undoubtedly the best place for a young player to flourish
