We did win that game. Should we start a thread on Babel for missing two chances against Marseille last night. Forwards will miss, one of our greatest forwards in recent times Owen, missed a lot of chances but had the confidence to keep getting into the positions to score. That is the mark of the a good player.

He would have been torn to pieces on here if that had happened. Likewise, the same would have happened with Babel after he hit that piledriver from short range at the keeper yesterday.Originally posted by Sarb24 View PostI bet we wouldn't be praising him if Man U had equalised after he missed that easy chance on Saturday towards the end of the game

He's always ****in attacking..imo it's just his goal count that's up for debate matey......and don't call me matey....matey.Originally posted by Rashid View PostI'd rather have an attacker who can attack.... how many defenders do we need? We already use to two holding midfielders and a box to box midfielder in attack.

Not saying that. I rate Kuyt as a good player. Gives 110% in whichever position he plays. The wing isn't his best though. I think an extended run up front and he'd score quite a few goals.Originally posted by DeeTheDog View PostWe did win that game. Just making the point that a lot of people praise him at the minute but if we'd dropped points he would have been slated. Much the same as Babel

"I think you'll find..."Originally posted by DeeTheDog View PostI think you'll find a pass that leads to a goal is an assist, be it 5 or 50 yards.
Do you actually say that in real life?
So it is, as I recognised in my response. However it is tenuous in the extreme to cite a 5 yard square pass while extolling his virtues.Last edited by Shaggy; 17-09-08, 01:05 PM.Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

I would agree with you if he stood completly still and just had to make an easy pass. In this case he made a good run, dragged opponents with him and played a good pass to Gerrard. This is what Kuyt offers in attack IMO, his running creates rooms for others. There was still alot to do for Gerrard, but it was the movement from other players that created the room for him.Blank

Why was it tenuous to cite an assist in game, as a positive? I know through your blinkered eyes it does not count, as it was only 5 yards and slightly behind. Yet, it was his intention to set-up Gerrard.Originally posted by ShaggyAlonso View Post"I think you'll find..."

Why did you feel the need to mention my turn of phrase in a discussion about Kuyt? Is it to deflect attention from your flimsy argument?

Not at all, I was just remarking on what is a hugely patronising 'turn of phrase'.
You come skipping gleefully into a Kuyt thread to use a slightly inaccurate five yard pass as an example of Kuyt's worth to the side. I think you sound a bit desperate, that's all. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Using your 'logic' here, but what is so amazing about pulling the ball back across goal?

he;'d seen the pass in front of Stevie savedOriginally posted by ShaggyAlonso View PostYes his running does create space. He is perpetual motion.
Doesn't alter the fact that it was a 5 yard pass that he actually played BEHIND Gerrard!
so good on him to make Stevie go for the other corner - the lads a geniusIts times like these we learn to live again FF

Dirk Kuyt is a mystery. I know its YouTube, and it made Cisse look like a world beater, but still. The clips on there of his Feyenord days make it look like its actually a totally different player, although there's obviously no mistaking the lad
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

I have to hold my hands up here. I wanted Kuyt gone in the summer but so far this season he has been very good.
Not amazing, but very good. If he can keep up this form then I am happy enough seeing him in the starting XI. I still dream of a top class RW, but he is doing our club proud at the moment. If he can get his shooting boots on then he could have a good year.
I'd still take the rumoured £14m from Hamburg, but he deserves credit for his performances thus far.Forwards.......
