I'm a Skrtel fan (who isn't really) but Agger showed last night why he should be in the team imo..we can be pretty predictable going forward at times and one of his runs could give us a variety in attack that could easily lead to a goal

Agger is arguably one of the best footballing prospects we've had at CB for many a year. Hopefully both he and Skrtel will form one of the meanest & classiest CB pairings that this club has had for many a year.

But, Agger needs to be playing more games (preferably reserve games ) against 'lesser' opposition before he is thrust back into mainstream action. We DO NOT want a recurrence of the problems he has had and nor will he, long term versus short term gain = no brainer.

Personally, if Carra and Skrtel continue to perform, Agger should be eased back only until we're past the Xmas period.

Agger showed good movement against Crewe. Skrtel has been playing well against PL teams. Last night isn't enough to dislodge him imo.

Agger is a better player than Skrtle but it would be a sin to drop Skrtle since he has been playing so well. I wouldnt change the partnership this weekend maybe give Agger another run out against PSV and Wigan.

Yeah of course, one game isn't enough, but we already know Agger can do it in the PL. He's now played full games for Denmark and us is looking lean and raring to go. It's just a shame CB is really a position you shouldn't rotate, but I can see him playing in our next home game

No-one at the moment, but Carra will need a rest now and again. The prospect of Skrtel and Agger is jizz-tastic

I wouldn't drop Reina for Agger

                    I would drop Carra.

BUT, not quite yet. So patience is teh key for Agger right now.

Maybe this season Agger should get some games at LB as well.

What i like about all of our centre backs is they all have different attributes, Carra - the 'real' captain, organiser and last ditch tackle king, Skrtel - solid as an ox and great in the air, Agger - a cultured centre back with good passing ability.

I would play the partnership that suits vs the opposition, so against Stoke last week Agger would have been a good choice against Everton Carra and Skrtel etc.
                      We come not to play.

In the derby more than any other game, you need players who aren't afraid to get stuck in and who won't be intimidated by the physical approach (which is pretty much the only weapon in Everton's limited armoury).

Skrtel, despite his tendency to pick up unnecessary bookings, has to start. I'd be inclined to push Carragher out to right back and bring Agger in alongside Skrtel.

Last season, i would have agreed with you, but so far, Arbeloa has been in impressive form, so i wouldn't shift him out, or change Carra and Skrtel just yet. Agger will have to wait his turn.

I think it would be a mistake to alter the CB pairing at the minute but I think we do still lack balance in terms of moving the ball out of defense quickly at the minute. The problem is that removing Carragher who is probably the weakest at that of the three brings in a new CB pairing with no obvious leader/organiser in the pair.

Moving Carra to right back doesn't really solve the problem of distribution form the back either.

For me the best compromise at the minute is Carra and Skrtel - the positions should certainly be theirs to lose.

It is a long season and there will undoubtedly be injuries, suspensions etc, so Agger (and even Sami, don't forget Sami!!) will get their chances.

For me, Arbeloa is always just on the verge of making a costly mistake. I like him when he's on the ball but his positional play is not always what it should be - I think he loses concentration on occasions, even for only a second, but as we know that's all it takes.

On the few occasions Carragher has played on the right in the last year or so, I've detected less of a tendency to play long, hopeful balls. He seems more willing to link up with whoever's operating in front of him, and has even offered a decent overlapping option at times. He certainly seemed to have improved from his time there under Houllier.

The leadership point is a valid one, mind. But I think it's something that would develop naturally and perhaps become less relevant over time. Thinking back, there was no obvious leader in the Hansen and Lawrenson partenership and that was the best defensive pairing I've seen.
