Hi All - i agree with mosts of the post on here regarding lucas - hes a bit light wieght - had a bad game last night - needs to be watched

Strange player. One of those that make you think you could play in that position at this level. Is he so good he makes it look easy?

Has he ever passed the ball a) more than 15 yards forwards b) anywhere in the air?

How do you impress in that position? What makes Mascherano stand out so much? Tenacity, workrate, tackling, reading of the game, foraging runs, self belief ..does Lucas show any of those qualities? Maybe self belief and workrate..not sure about the others.

Is Rafa trying to mould him into something he's not capable of being?

Personally I think he has this season and then he'll be off to Spain or back home.

Just to clarify my original post, Lucas won the Brazilian player of the year i.e. the best player playing for a Brazilian club that year. Here is the full list of winners:-

Personally I think a comparison with Anderson is fair, there is only 1 years difference in their age (Lucas is older), they both mainly play central midfield, although Anderson has been deployed in a more attacking role since coming to England and they are both competing with stronger, more experienced players for first team football.

I didn't start this thread to bash Lucas, as I think he could be a great player, he's definitely no Bruno Cheryrou but I'm yet to see him dominate a game or even show us what he is capable of.

With regard to Anderson, I with a few of united fans who say he is a really good player but over hyped a bit, he can go missing in games. I'm hoping it will turn out that we signed the better player for a 1/3 of the price...but so far Anderson is looking the better player...

lucas is rubbish....no more excuses. we are fortunate that plessis is steadily improving cus i just cant see lucas offering anything. michael johnson is someone we should be looking at ...unfortunately city are no longer a selling team.

But he can't get in the team. They are using Kompany and Didi in the middle and I don't envisage Johnson getting much regular football...certainly until Didi packs in. Even then, Johnson isn't a screening midfielder in the mould of our favourite German.

but to Lucas - I think he is behind the rest of the team fitness-wise, and some are questioning his mentality? He always shows for a pass and tries his hardest, even when we're playing ****, or he's playing ****, or when silly ****s at Anfield are moaning and groaning when he misplaces a pass (yeah that'll help his confidence won't it ).

Oh, and who, after Gerrard had just scored, didn't celebrate, but immediately went over, put his arm around Gerrard and discussed tactics? **** off he doesn't have the mentality.
