And I have to say when I was watching that game I was thinking of you. I swear you put a curse on Lucas as everything you said came trueOriginally posted by Mike_lfc View PostI remember El Jef was disagreeing with me when i said Lucas gave away cheap fouls and has little effect on a game (not that i am slating off Jef i enjoy reading his posts)
But i do think last nights game proved the point i was trying to make.

I seem to remember that we had a strong final third of last season with Lucas being a key component of our midfield, preferred to Alonso. But I don't have a great memory for football stats so maybe I'm wrong.
I will concede that he is no Messi, but the who is? (Other than Messi of course!) And also that he didn't have a great game the other night - but by that standard, does that mean everyone now wants to sell Torres?
For me, in the last third of last season, he looked a very tidy player with a good range of passing, and played in key Champions League matches (well I remember him playing against Inter!). IMO it shows the mark of a quality for a young player to come to a new country and even look tidy in a top Champions League side. You don't have to be flashy to be a good player, perhaps he is doing the job that Rafa is asking him to do. Crazy concept for some people to understand, I know.
I'm not saying he will be our star player for the next 10 years, but surely he has done enough to be given longer to prove himself!

Just glad i have a bit of evidence to back up my point.

I still have faith in Lucas. He is taking his time finding his feet but I'd hate to see him cast off only to develop into a start player in a year or two. Maybe a period on loan would help him but that isn't always the case. I'd like to see Rafa use him and Plessis togehter in the carling cup. Sometimes young players are overawed when playing alongside great players so a few games without Alonso, Masch and SG might do his confidence the world of good. IMO he is playing within himself all the time, trying to do everything simple and safe. Whether Rafa has coached him to do this I don't know but I hope he gets the chance to shine this season.Dare we believe

He's clearly a very good player, but he's really having big issues imposing himself in games. He is never really noticeable during the course of games, he's gets in for a second then fades away again. I don't think the criticism of him is fair but I do think that he has very long to go. For a South American, especially a Brazilian I don't think I've ever seen any of them (whom is supposed to be an attacking force, maybe bar Baptista) that has such a bad first touch. Given he's not Kuyt or anything but his first touch is pretty ****e. I think he needs more confidence and games time and we will see the best from him. I do however think maybe loaning him out a season to a upper-mid table team in any of England, Italy or Spain would do him good. Although he is here and we might as well keep faith in him, we've persisted enough thus far might as well continue.
Now that Sissoko is back in form, every time I see Lucas playing for us, and Sissoko playing really well in a Juve shirt I do feel pretty annoyed. His passing is actually very good these days and is really looking more like how Vieira was when he was playing well. I think maybe we were a bit hasty after some bad form and bad morale to sell him. I know many people here won't agree with me but he's been excellent for Juve and he could've give us that extra energy that we and have been lacking in a few games to really dominate games.

The PL is far too quick for Momo. He can tracked and tackled well, but was hopeless with the ball from day one. Even when he was playing well, he couldn't pass for toffee.Originally posted by Zapater View PostHe's clearly a very good player, but he's really having big issues imposing himself in games. I wish we would sell him. Not strong enough on the ball, not quick enough, doesnt excel in either passing or holding players.
For what its worth, i think he would be a good player in spain where he will get more time on the ball. I dont think he is suited to the english game. Simple as that.
