I think he's a handy little footballer and I'm looking forward to seeing him up close against Crewe on Tuesday, but if wants a proper career at the highest level he really has to get a move to a club prepared to offer him regualar first team football.
    He's 22 now.

On a side note with reference to yesterday, some of the turns he was doing on the ball in next to no space yesterday were truly world class. He really needs to move to another club

Should we be selling "world class" players??

I never said he was world class - read what I wrote.

He's too good/old to be used as a reserve player or someone who gets the odd sub appeareance. He's definately premiership standard and is definately good enough to handle the physical nature of the premiership. In fact his strength on the ball coupled with his skill is in my opinion his biggest strength. He's one of those players who deserves to be at a different club. This guy will go on to become a good footballer in the same way that Sinama Pongolle has in Spain if he moves to a different club.

What right does Rafa have hindering the careers of talented young players by not even giving them any game time. He gives them all false hope by signing them. And Nemeth will be heading down the same path as El Zhar too.

            Is this for real?

            HOW DARE HE!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Pongolle, while a handy player, wasn't good enough to play for us regularly.

El Zhar seems to have come on a bundle in recent months but the fact is he's never gonna get a game ahead of the likes of Babel, Riera, Kuyt or Benayoun.

Such is football. This isn't a charity or a home for 'under-privileged footballers'.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

              Disagree.

I think he was a quality little footballer, who with the right coaching could have been a very, very useful 'impact' squad player. He scored several VERY important goals for LFC.

I would have kept him before buying players like Pennant or Yossi.

How's he doing these days anyway ?

Just seen Pongolle scored 22 goals in 66 games for Recreativo, before getting a move to Atletico Madrid.

                He's doing pretty well then...

I can understand Babel and Riera being ahead of him, but I'd question the other 2.

In terms of Pongolle, I wonder if he is actually of Liverpool standard now (I can't be arsed watching La Liga so I've not really seen him play) and better than some of our strikers? I reckon he would have got more chances with us had he not got that injury. I know he set up a goal against PSV with an impressive run on Wednesday - OUR Garcia set up the other 2

He's doing pretty well and he's a good player, no doubt. But he had quite a lot of playing time with us and seldom did as well as I'd hoped. He had great moments of course - Olympiakos, Luton away, Betis........but more often than not he flattered to deceive. There were never widespread calls for him to be in the side.

More to the point, how much is he worth?

We should have loaned him out for an extra season as opposed to selling him. El Zhar needs to go on loan, as do quite a few of our reserves. If nothing else it gives them a decent transfer value and opens a space for one of the under 18s to step up.

If they do well then maybe they could replace a weaker member of the first team.
                      Forwards.......

At the time he left, I wasn't bothered. But in hindsight, he was far better than the Morientes and many of the other duds. I think we should have allowed him to stay on loan and then took him back rather than selling him on the cheap to Recreativo. Think we barely got £2.5m for him.

I always had a soft spot for Pongolle.

                          Mainly because..

                          a) He's got a great name.
                          b) I remember lots of cheeky tricks and flicks and a truly audacious turn against Viera at Anfield
                          c) He scored some vital goals for us.

I'm looking forward to giving him a good reception when he comes back to Anfield on November 4th.

Where he then did a ****e cross and gave the ball away..........

Still, I know I'd rather have Pongolle on the bench as an option than N'gog.

I think we will see more and more of him as the season goes on, he has looked very sharp and impressed. I doubt he would even fancy a move now that he has broken into the first team a bit. To say sell him now that he has moved up and getting games is a bit odd in my eyes.

I think the idea is more of a loan him out and see how he does.
