I don't want to be labelled as one of the over-positive brigade*, but honestly, for all of those being negative about tonight's performance, does anyone really care a **** about the Carling Cup any more before the quarter finals? A win is a win - great stuff, let's move on. Getting upset about tonight is like getting upset when the academy or the reserves get beat. We've got the derby on Saturday - self-preservation would have been high in the minds of anyone in tonight's team who thought they had a chance of making the squad for the blue****e. That alone turned tonight into a pre-season friendly sort of affair from our point of view (though not from Crewe's)
*Incidentally - has anyone noticed how polarised and personal this site is sometimes becoming these days? With certain posters shouting down other posters solely based on past posts and attitudes rather than addressing the points that they are trying to make, and everyone being labelled as either RCDNW or anti-LFC? I suppose you could also describe it as being too many posters with an agenda, but either way, personally I don't think it is healthy for a site when people retreat into their own camps and are only willing to enter into a discussion with people that they know they agree with.
Rafael Benitez has revealed that Philipp Degen is likely to face a spell on the sidelines after picking up two broken ribs in the Carling Cup win over Crewe.
The Swiss international had to be replaced by Jamie Carragher on 73 minutes and looked to be in some discomfort after suffering the knock in an innocuous looking challenge.
"He has two broken ribs," said Benitez. "He is very unlucky."
That's an understatement! He was unfortunate to be landed upon by Hyypia and Zola (I think), he looked as if he was in agony. The medical staff were appalling - he should have been stretchered off, instead he made his own way round the pitch - took him about 10 minutes to disappear down the tunnel.

Yes, I have, and I rather agree about it being unhealthy. We are going to try to do something about it though pretty soon....
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?
