Agger vows to fight for place.

Daniel Agger has denied reports of a rift with Rafa Benitez and has made it clear he is intent on fighting for his place at Liverpool.

The defender was a mainstay of the Liverpool side prior to picking up a foot injury which decimated his 2007/2008 campaign.

The signing and subsequent emergence of Martin Skrtel has forced Agger down the pecking order and reports suggest Benitez was less than impressed with the Dane’s display against Standard Liege in a Champions League qualifier.

Agger has admitted Benitez was not happy with certain aspects of Liverpool’s display against the Belgians, but has insisted there is no rift between the pair.

"Of course there are things that Benitez was not satisfied with after Liege," Agger told Danish TV station TV3.

"We didn't play a good match, but it is a big lie to say we had an argument. I certainly hope it is only football reasons why I am not playing.

"I have no problem in this club. He has just said that the team is playing very well, and that is why I am not playing."

Agger’s future has been cast into doubt, as he could buy out the remainder of his contract, but he has indicated his desire to fight for his place at Anfield.

"I want to stay here and fight for my place in the squad," he added.

"I'm not satisfied with the fact that I'm not playing but I have to cope and accept it.

    "I'm happy at Liverpool."

Hard to drop Carra or Skrtel really considering we have conceeded very little this year. I like that Agger is going to fight and is not making a big deal about it. Past players would be knocking on Rafa's door seeking assurances instead of getting their head down and working hard.

Agger's a class act and i hope he can be patient because Carra's starting to get on a bit now and the future CB places are there for Skrtel and Agger to make their own for a very long time.

Its not just past players that stoke up these situations into something they are not, its the media too.

I'm glad he's come out with this through mainstream press.

Hopefully, that'll be an end to it and he'll force his way back in in due course.

Until he signs a new contract I will not be happy. Think he will but until he does it is a worry.

Agger will ultimately win his place in the team because he is too good not to. It is clear that the long term future is Agger and Skyrtel, but right now Carra is the experience critical to the stability and effectiveness of our defence. Patience for Agger and possibly Skyrtel later on.

The sooner we get Agger and Skrtel at centre half the better, left back is the big problem in our defence now so I say its time to move carragher back as a full back and accomodate all three into our backline, that in itself will help in our quest for the title.

We need full backs who can fly up the wings and Carra just aint gonna do that as well as some of our other options.

Through me the way to the eternal pain,
Through me the way that runs among the lost.
                          Justice urged on my high artificer;

Before me nothing but eternal things were made,

                          And like that… he's gone

                            Couple of points.

1/ We don't have any problems in defense. We've conceded bugger all goals.
2/ This is a real test of Rafa. We have a large squad (U18s, Reserves and first team) and one of the problems with that is you need to give minutes to all of the outstanding players. Rafa needs to work out how to keep all 4 CHs happy without compromising results.

This is going to be a real problem for Rafa because I can see Carra being first choice for a couple of years yet and then on the margins for another couple. Rafa MUST find a way to keep Agger.

I think its all media talk. Rafa has said he is happy with him, Agger has said he wants to stay and fight for his place. I'm sure Agger will sign a new contract soon which will kill all these rumours.
