Many large organisations that have a well sorted HR department will have business excellence whereby staff skills are assessed and they are placed in other areas of the company where they will be better used.

Rafa has taken this concept and used in on Kuyt. He is still a goalscoring threat but his main skills lie in creating space and doing all the donkey work for Gerrard, Torres, Babel etc to shine.

It's not glamorous or quantifiable but it's a ****ing important job and not many players have the stamina, discipline or tactical acumen to perform it.

In my eyes, if allows £20m players to score for fun and perhaps win us the league then he is worth every penny of his £10m.

I'd agree with you if he was a decent wide striker or wide midfielder... he isn't.... he has been put in another department because the boss likes him. Are you suggesting that if we had someone other than Kuyt out wide on the right the likes of Gerrard and Torres wouldn't be as good?

You and others whi suggest this are simply bonkers and would be laughed at by the whole football community if you said this in public.

his undoubted quality is his work rate and its vital to every team.

The problem is that he lacks so much in other key areas that he doesnt look like a top class premiership player. He works really hard and that does take the pressure off torres and keane to get back but when played on the right his crossing is poor, his passing is bad and he cant get past his defender. He doesnt do enough for a wide player in an attacking sense.

His contribution from that side is really poor but his overall work ethic is as good as anything ive seen.

This is one example of where work ethic beats talent hands down when considering player development. He has very little talent to speak of but he does give 100% for the team every time he goes onto the pitch.

In that sense we're fortunate to have somebody who puts the team before his personal glory.

Always plays better in Europe and always plays better in the 4231 formation; in all honesty he shouldn't be in the team when we play 442; although we're pretty thin in the RM position I'd give a run of games to El Zhar....

Leave Kuyt foe where and when he plays best.

Are you suggesting that if we had someone other than Kuyt out wide on the right the likes of Gerrard and Torres wouldn't be as good they might have to concentrate more on other areas of the game if we had another type of player out wide (do you think Gerrard would have more or less defensive duties if you replaced Kuyt with for example Quaresma?)?

What you mean like the run, dribble and pass for our first goal against PSV?

His crossing is actually quite good and there is usually no one in the box to take advantage of it.

As for Rashid, I would say that in public. Perhaps you should study what he does on the pitch rather than the top scorers charts then you will see he is an intelligent runner and is following Rafas orders.

He is not there just because he is mates. He is there because can perform a task vital to the rest of the plan coming off.

During the Second World War, entire units were shipped off to places for no other reason than to give the enemy something to think about. It didn't make them any less of a fighting unit, it just meant they were fulfilling a specific task and usually to stretch out a front or act as a decoy.

See the bigger picture and stop just going on charts.

The point is we can do a million times better, when Kuyt leaves LFC it will be to a mid table PL team or a meaningless German or Dutch team....

You may be right there. But one thing I will say about Kuyt is that he will always give a 6/10 display no matter what the game. Other wingers will give you a 4/10 in many games. The difference is that other wingers in world football are capable of creating something out the ordinary far more often than Kuyt.

But I can see why Rafa likes him. Rafa likes his teams to stay solid at the back and build from there. Kuyt enables him to do that. I remember the interviwv with Quaresma where he told that he would have joined Liverpool if he had consented to fore going some of the freedom he enjoyed on the pitch. He was not willing to do that and so was never given the chance to move.

I've said enough times I see Kuyt as the weak link in our team attack wise, and I would love to see a top winger signed up. But I'll give him his dues, he's playing well this season and is proving effective.
                Forwards.......

We already have a player at the club who is 5 times as good and who needs games. Pity he isn't a dog of war.

                    Who is that then?

And to call Kuyt a dog of war is, frankly, ridiculous

Every team has a managers favourite. Your just anti Kuyt and just because he wouldn't fit into Arsenal or United doesn't mean he is not a great player. There is more to football than technical ability. He is a team player and a very important one at that. Sometimes you are so blinded by your own agenda you can't see the woods for the trees.

Do you mean Babel? He might have more technical abilty and have an abundance of raw talent and ability but is woefully inconsistant and IMO not ready for a regular starting place. Kuyt at the moment is a more important player for us.

If Babel had the same blind faith shown in him he would score more and get more assists without a doubt. If only he could scrap like a hound...

You might not appreciate what he brings to the team but Torres certainly does, I doubt Torres would have got as many goals last year without Kuyt along side him.

Yeah it's a pity he is so lazy. Unlike Kuyt who doesn't ****ing stop, if he doesn't win the ball first time he just stands there. Yes he has ability and maybe when he matures he will be amazing but Kuyt is far more important for Liverpool right now.

The man just never stops and never stops shutting me up. I thought he had a poor game today and I was extremely annoyed at his dire first half miss. Thought it was going to prove very costly but, typical Dirk, he pops up with the winner at the end. His attitude is absolutely fantastic.
