Problem is though, that Lucas has never been the one who's 'performing best'.

Having said that, you're right that he's benefitted, although what he benefitted from was the rotation system, rather than a system where whoever performs best gets picked - because under such a system, he'd have hardly got a game.



Two problems here. Firstly, translators usually dont just change it for a word that means something different. So his 'choice' would've been limited to terms which mean the same thing.

Second point, which makes the first redundant anyway - Lucas speaks english.

DWW isnt a translator, so he might indeed struggle with it.

Wasnt the point about rafa picking the players who are performing the best, in the given position? Therefore, in Lucas case you'd include Gerrard, Mascherano, Alonso too. Which is why Lucas has never been the 'best' performing, the one with the highest goals or assists.

2nd point is IMO lucas passing is extremely poor

His passing is definitely NOT extremely poor.

His game is about keeping the play moving, short passes etc. You dont notice his passing during a game, he doesn't do anything spectacular with the ball. But he keeps play ticking along nicely.

true, but if we went for Anderson then we would have had to fork out nearer to 20mill and would he have been a regular in place of Machser/stevie/xabi.
But I take the point, we could have put lucas's fee, along with Momo's and bought in some attacking flair for the right.

Well, in fairness he nearly ousted Alonso this summer, and did oust him towards the end of last season when Alonso was badly out of form. And as for whether he'll be as good, i;m notconvinced either way...i've seen flashes of genius in his play, but he is being brought in bit by bit, so until he gets a run in the team we'll never really know if he is a Salif Diao or a Stevie G.
