Some people's comment in this thread are ridiculous. What do people expect, that every player joining us will be a boyhood Liverpool fan wearing his "heart on his sleeve"? That he won't be thinking about his financial security and long term career just to "play in front of the kop"?

Did Rafa leave Valencia and join us because "Liverpool are such a special club blah blah blah". No, it was a good career move.

I don't care what motives a player has when he joins us, as long as he gives 100% in games and training sessions, and acts like a total professional, it will be good enough for me.

Sure, sentiment and loyalty do come into play, but it's something that can only develop after some time. We're talking about a foreign player who had little knowledge of English football, so there's nothing wrong with looking after himself when picking where he wants to go.

Besides, we all saw what happened when "boyhood Liverpool fan" Harry Kewell came in here. He sucked more money out of us than many so called "foreign mercenaries" who played in his time, despite joining us "for all the right reasons".

What did he actually say to annoy you? It is good to see a professional footballer talk about the financial crisis, to me it still seems far to many people have their heads in the sand.
I dont think it matters how much money you earn, you still want your surrounding to be secure specially if you have a family.
I dont see how him worrying about his family, sport and the country he plays in effects or belittles the poor people trying to feed their family, or how it would annoy anyone. He isnt going on about not earning enough more the way big clubs are getting into serious financial difficulties.
Are you not worried how this financial crisis is going to effect Liverpool and the other clubs around them?

His worries are quite different to the majority in a financial crisis. Is he going to be without a job? No! Is he worrying about repayments on his mortgage? No! Bills coming out of his ears? Has he ****! So to me his problems are virually non-existent! He's asking for more guarantees? Like what?

LFC is not going to crumble or suffer to the extent of what regular businesses are! Find me a Liverpool fan who is ****ting themselves about us in this crisis??
              El Nino!!

Just cause his worries are different he shouldnt have them? Maybe he wouldnt have left his country of birth if he had of known the financial scene over here was going to get so bad?
Why are you getting so worked up about it, surely the man is allowed to have his own opinions on things that effect the whole world.
I am very worried about Liverpool over the next few years with the way things are going. Even Chelsea from reports are having a tough time and West Ham are in serious problems. Anyone who isnt worried needs to take their heads out of the sand. Our owners are losing money by the day, our loans are increasing by the day and the hopes of a new stadium seem dead in the waters.

                  I don't bet.

However, I will be more than happy to eat humble pie if he proves me wrong.

Very much doubt it though. He will be a makeweight in the signing of a Skando player from Serie A.....

I'm not getting worked up I just think it's funny when footballers talk about problems concerning the financial world. To me they're quite exempt from all the panic. For him to say he would have had a re-think on his decision to sign for one of the biggest clubs in the world, no doubt doubling his wage, increasing his chances of silverware and cementing his place in the national team is absolute toss.

I agree with you about our owners we've all had them worries for over a year now, we seriously need a takeover reprieve and sound financial investment. Unlike many businesses we are still going to get custom, packed houses and shirt sales where as a lot of firms in different industries will lose custom.

Really dont have any sympathy with him myself. Would love to be in his position but I dont see the need for anyone to have a go at him for being worried about the financial crisis.

Cant really agree on your second point, if the fans are feeling the credit crunch then they will have less to spent on tops, games and sky subscriptions. This wouldnt be to bad but when you have large interest fees to pay each year it becomes a major problem for us.
Added to this the possibility of only 3 spots for the Champs League and City having a very rich owner it gets even worse.

                        Why's that?

And IMO people will buy footy shirts no matter what, before any other item of clothing nearly every season!

There has been a lot of talk of only allowing 3 English teams into the Champs League instead of the 4.
The amount of tops being sold will really depend on just how bad this recession gets. Hard to say at the minute how many people will lose their jobs and just how badly effected the normal fan will be. If it does become the worst recession in modern times then I really doubt fans will be heading out and buying 3 kits a season or families heading out and buying their 2 sons tops every season.

"Barclays lost a lot of money in a few hours," said Dossena. "We are talking about one of the most important banks, and the sponsor of the Premiership.

"It is all difficult to understand.

"Had I known about certain things before I would have thought twice (about moving to England), I would have asked for more guarantees.
That bit in bold (with context) annoyed the **** out of me. Like LFC or any football club can guarantee that a bank won't go to the wall.

It's a bloody ignorant stupid comment IMO

Agreed, I prefer honesty to Liverpool was always the team I supported.

And well done to Dossena on becoming first choice RB for Italy.
