Some people's comment in this thread are ridiculous. What do people expect, that every player joining us will be a boyhood Liverpool fan wearing his "heart on his sleeve"? That he won't be thinking about his financial security and long term career just to "play in front of the kop"?

Did Rafa leave Valencia and join us because "Liverpool are such a special club blah blah blah". No, it was a good career move.

I don't care what motives a player has when he joins us, as long as he gives 100% in games and training sessions, and acts like a total professional, it will be good enough for me.

Sure, sentiment and loyalty do come into play, but it's something that can only develop after some time. We're talking about a foreign player who had little knowledge of English football, so there's nothing wrong with looking after himself when picking where he wants to go.

Besides, we all saw what happened when "boyhood Liverpool fan" Harry Kewell came in here. He sucked more money out of us than many so called "foreign mercenaries" who played in his time, despite joining us "for all the right reasons".

What did he actually say to annoy you? It is good to see a professional footballer talk about the financial crisis, to me it still seems far to many people have their heads in the sand.
I dont think it matters how much money you earn, you still want your surrounding to be secure specially if you have a family.

I am very worried about Liverpool over the next few years with the way things are going. Even Chelsea from reports are having a tough time and West Ham are in serious problems. Anyone who isnt worried needs to take their heads out of the sand. Our owners are losing money by the day, our loans are increasing by the day and the hopes of a new stadium seem dead in the waters.

There has been a lot of talk of only allowing 3 English teams into the Champs League instead of the 4.
The amount of tops being sold will really depend on just how bad this recession gets. Hard to say at the minute how many people will lose their jobs and just how badly effected the normal fan will be. If it does become the worst recession in modern times then I really doubt fans will be heading out and buying 3 kits a season or families heading out and buying their 2 sons tops every season.
