    FIFPRO Team of the Year

    From the offal
ANFIELD DUO IN TEAM OF THE YEAR
    Paul Eaton 27 October 2008

Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard have both been named in the Fifpro World Footballer of the Year team.
The Anfield duo have capped an impressive year on club duty by winning the vote of their fellow professionals from all over the world.

Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo won the main award and was named Fifpro World Footballer of the Year.

    FifPro World XI:

    Goalkeeper: Iker Casillas (Spain/Real Madrid)

Defenders: Sergio Ramos (Spain/Real Madrid); John Terry (England/Chelsea); Carles Puyol (Spain/ Barcelona); Rio Ferdinand (England/Manchester United)

Midfielders: Steven Gerrard (England/Liverpool); Xavi (Spain/Barcelona); Kaka (Brazil/AC Milan).

Forwards: Lionel Messi (Argentina/Barcelona); Fernando Torres (Spain/Liverpool); Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal/Manchester United)

FifPro is the worldwide representative organisation for professional football players, with more than 57,500 members.

    ---------------------------------------

Good to see Gerrard and Torres get some recognition for their stellar performances last season.

Some of the defensive selections are a joke though. Quite what Puyol is doing in there is beyond me, he's not even the best defender at his club. I'd question Terry and Ramos too.
A humble guy with healthy desire.

When i saw Puyol my mouth literally dropped.

He got into that team for who he plays for, not how he has played.

The guy is not even a LB ffs!

Puyol shouldn't be in there. I'd love to know which of the three CBs are supposed to be playing left back

What a ****ing front three though

Its a bit of a joke really. Puyol, ramos FFS

What is so bad about carra that he cant even get a lookin into these sorts of elected teams.

Is it cos he's squeaky ? Dont people understand what he says.

Puyol isnt anywhere near the class of carra but never mind. If carra was brazilian they would be talking about him as one of the finest defenders to have ever lived.

Carraldo the best defender never to have been recognised by one of these wankey committees.

the main reason why carra doesn't get in these sort of teams is because he does not play for England!

i think it's a pretty well chosen team that bar puyol (or whoever else) at leftback - evra should have got that!

Puyol is a top player - I don't get the criticism continually aimed at him on these boards. I've said it before, he's their Carra. Their supporters know how good he is - outsiders less so.

Although this ****ty FIFPRO thing is a load of bollocks, it's pleasing to see two Liverpool players in a world XI. When was the last time that happened?

Garcia and Gerrard '05 I think.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

He was definitely in one team, maybe I'm getting mixed up with a CL select. Not sure.

Yup, well wrong, I'll haver to find the team I was thinking of.

Edit: They were in the UEFA team, I'll do more research next time.

Agree with that, but I still wouldn't have him in that team. Too many superior players ahead of him.

Yeah I'd go along with that.

Terry has been in it every single year.

                              well deserved too
"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."
