Thank goodness someone has stuck to the remit.

Although I think his overlapping is ordinary...anyway...anyone remember Steve Nicol...now he could overlap.

Shame you didn't, all you have said is he's ordinary six times.

This thread is ordinary my friend.

        assist for keane's goal too.

he's the best full back at the club

No dude, I broke down important characteristics of a defender's role into 5 areas then rated each of them. FA just happened to score the same rating for each. Here is an example to illustrate this time using Carra :-
          Left foot: below average
          tackling: legendary
          defending: legendary
          attacking: below average
          Free kicks: N/A

Carra isn't really the subject of this discussion, but I have used the same analysis on him. Notice he scores lower than FA in some areas, but excels in others.

In what way does FA excel?

(an enlightened poster made a good point earlier in the thread, that 'ordinary' in alot of positions is good enough to win trophies).

Remember this is just opinion. No right and wrong (although I am correct here ).

Danish Pastry, he WAS a free transfer. He denies having ever signed a pre contract with a Uruguayan side.

            His response?

"Why would I sign for such a side when my agent had been in talks with Real Madrid, amongst other sides" or something along those lines.

I thought Reira was **** last night. Didn't even play as a left winger. Just didn't turn up, so Aurelio's good job was even more magnified

riera's cutting in too much. hope it gets sorted soon. he's better when he plays genuinely wide left.

i'm sure if they both get a good run together they'll prove to be an excellent partnership

No need for him to cut in. We're much better when he stays out wide

On another note, I thought Babel did well when he came on yesterday. For once he wasn't continuously cutting in and losing the ball. He beat the man on the outside quite a few times which is what Rafa wants of him I'm sure

I was watching Barcalona last night and when Alves slid a perfect pass for Eto'o to score the second I thought how it shows the difference between our £2m right back and Barca's £20m one (or whatever he cost).

Then I realized it was pretty much exactly the same as the pass from Aurelio to Keane for our second.

Sometimes at least he's capable of rising well above ordinary.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

                      Aurelio is a quality footballer.
                      Very naturally gifted.

If he had pace he would be seen as the best left back in the premiership as his technical ability has never been in doubt.

Sorry, sir, I only cite from "By Chris Bascombe".... - and what other LFC forums concluded on that basis through 2006.

But of course - you are a higher authority, so I'll bow deeply!

Ha, I hope someone else on this forum notices that Bascombe isn't infallible.

Lets put it this way. He's a defender who cant defend

The fans in the pubs in 1967 were saying the same about Emlyn Hughes, hence the nickname "Crazy Horse" after a rugby tackle against Newcastle and the long meandering runs he used to go on.

Bascombe talks ****e most of the time

The only thing wrong with Aurelio is his injuries. When he can actually get a run of games together he has proved himself to be more than capable of being our number 1 LB.

Fullbacks are probably the hardest spot to get a real "gem". If they are too attacking it leaves you wide open, but also if they are too defensive it will leave your attack stagnant...ala Finnan.
