    Maxi's goal last night...

Quite lucky for these reasons in my opinion:

1.) Lopez was actually looking to play the ball 2 Forlan - Maxi just happened 2 take a chance (unlike some of our players) & make a run towards the near post. The timing of Lopez's pass just happened 2 be spot on as Maxi ran through, thereby causing Carra 2 be wrong footed.
2.) The way Maxi controlled the ball was due 2 his run. If u play the same ball 2 him & ask him 2 replicate that control in the same way I doubt he could do it, ie, his control was a fluke. The ball just fell into his path as he ran through & his stride amazingly helped him control the ball 2 perfection...

    Thoughts?
Thanks for the memories Rafa - YNWA!

Thought it was a really well worked goal, the way Atletico were zipping the ball about with one touch passing in that period was the difference between us and them.

In many ways English teams lack the pass and move qualities more than their continental counterparts and this can be a reflection of coaching & the way the game is played in each country.

Do you mean Antonio Lopez’s fantastic take? Or Maxi’s? Because Lopez repeated the trick later in the game by killing another ball quite brilliantly on his right instep.

I’ve not read much post-match stuff but I’m sure it’s been commented upon – the goal looked to me to be Mascherano’s fault. He failed to spot and track Rodriguez’s run – very similar to the way in which he neglected his duties against United/Tevez.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Thought it was a brilliant goal myself. Perfect long ball, a couple of great first touches in the build up and a deadly finish.

            Was a brilliant goal.
That first touch to take it past Carragher was class.

How you can say otherwise is just pure ignorance.

Exactly my thoughts, just watched Maxi, made no effort to track him into the penalty area. Same as Tevez. Two fellow Argies

I've said this several times now but both Alonso and Mascher were poor at providing a defensive shield in the last two games. Especially on the left and when Agger and Aurelio went forward.

It is actually a real worry for me as we have become quite vulnerable to counter attacks at times this season and as neither Mascher or Alonso weigh in with many goals we have a team set up to control possession but not to exploit it and also give teams hope that they can sit and hit us on the break.

That's spot on. To be honest, it wasn't as bad as the one against the scum IMO. But the goal itself was majestic in every way. It was no fluke at all.

Hmmm, maybe Barry would be a better option?? Perhaps we should put in a cheeky bid for him in January?

Perhaps we can swap him with Keane.

I really do think he is ideally suited to the way we are playing. However I also think that Xabi and Mascherano are capable of upping their level.
