Anyone that has anything negative to say about Dirk Kuyt based on this season's performances needs serious help. He's been almost faultless. My only slight gripe is his erratic finishing, but even that has improved this season. One of the first names on the team sheet.

None of our players has been 'faultless', everyone's made a mistake here or there. Slight exaggeration there, probably based on how poor Kuyt was last season.
All i can say is that Kuyt has done reasonably well this season. By his own standards, he's been very good. But even by his own standards, he was below par against WBA.

I suggest you watch the game again Craig. Some of his touches were absolutely sublime, little knock ons and lay offs that were delicately executed from high balls. There was one in the first half, a first time flick from a high ball that spun absolutely perfectly into SG's path.. it was an excellent, selfless performance imo
and they're not robots yknow
SG gave the ball away, Benayoun did, Riera did, Mascher did, Keane did, everyone ****ing did

I agree - thought Kuyt was a close second to Keane as MOM.Originally posted by wiw View PostI suggest you watch the game again Craig. And an assist for Arbeloa's goal. Not bad for a woeful/ poor/ below average performance. Must be a hell of a player on a good day.

To be honest he was below his standard of this season. Still did pretty well and like the rest of the team it was a case of a job well done without anything spectacular having been done.
Lovely weight on the pass for Arbeloa though. If anyone else had done it people would have been creaming themselves."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I searched for white text, but there was none, surely you're on a wind up?Originally posted by Scratch View PostWasn't a lovely weighted pass, it was just a poor touch that got away from him

I started this thread and i'm a fan of Kuyt's, but I want to throw a question out there, not to be a WUM but just to get peoples opinions. What if Kuyt was sold? Rumour has it there is a big offer from Hamburg on the table.
How would this impact on our style of play? I personally think there would be a huge impact on one of our most effective systems, i.e. kuyt upfront and pushed out wide, torres in the centre with Keane or gerrard behind him, with babel or Riera pushed up on the left.
If Kuyt was sold should we look for a like for like replacement? someone hard working who can play in the advanced role out on the right? or should we get a more natural right winger?
There have been lots of rumours that we're going to sign Jakub Błaszczykowski from Dortmund, I've heard good things about him, not really seen much of him though, but I understand him to be more of a winger than a striker who can play out wide...I can't think of any direct replacements, i.e. someone with Kuyts work rate but technically "better"...

Some would have you believe that Kuyt has no touch and no guile, and can do no right...i have been forced round to their way of thinking, and now wish Dirk Kuyt all the best, but would he kindly get out of the team as he is stopping genuine wide players like El Zhar and Pennant from getting a game.Originally posted by pablo1981 View PostI searched for white text, but there was none, surely you're on a wind up?

There is white text here, and the above is all bollocks but some people genuinely believe it.

I really doubt he will be sold unless its a very good offer or we need the money. Hamburg were scared of in the summer by the figure we were looking and after this season it would probably be more now.Originally posted by ukfootballfan101 View PostWhat if Kuyt was sold? If he was sold I think Rafa would go for the same type of player, hard working forwards like Keane and Kuyt are great for the big games.

To me we would need a direct replacement if we sold Kuyt as he fills a lot of gaps in our squad. Even the offer from Hamburg is hugely unlikely to allows us to buy someone of equivalent ability, who fits into our team and is flexible tactically.Originally posted by ukfootballfan101 View PostI started this thread and i'm a fan of Kuyt's, but I want to throw a question out there, not to be a WUM but just to get peoples opinions. It would however be well worth our while adding a nippy winger to the squad to replace one of Pennant or Benayoun (or even both) to complement Kuyt.
To sell any of our first choice players at present I think you would need to have the justification of a vastly superior player to come in. We work well as a unit and that should be the base we build from rather than something we look to tear apart to bring in something totally different. In some ways in seasons before this one I think we have been guilty of making too many changes in personnel and style each year. We are only now really reaping the benefits of the juggling Rafa and the owners have done with transfers."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Thank you. He's been very good this season, done all his hard work but scored goals and provided threat. I was judging him by this standard of the first 11 games or so and to my mind, whilst his performance did improve on Saturday, it fell short of what he's been producing this campaign.
I agree about the pass to Arbeloa, that was on the money.
