I've always wondered about naming rights and team sponsorship.

It seems to me that if you are going to sponsor, say, the Mancs, then, oviously you are going to get good exposure with their fanbase, but equally you are going to get a lot of negative advertising along the lines of "I'm not buying that they sponsor those Manc *******s." Surely not many Spurs/West Ham etc fans are going to want to fly Emirates?

Didn't stop me using a Vodafone phone even though Man U were sponsored by them, and I bet many people on here have a Samsung Mobile now...

I know a lot of City fans who still call their ground Maine Road, even though it’s miles away and a totally different vibe for them all going to the match.
Sorry Shaggy, I have it on good authority that some of the money is being invested into Alberts and will be converted into a spanish tapas bar called
        el albertos

It won't matter a tot in 100 years time, they'll no doubt be having the same discussion with the same arguments for & against, no matter what it is called and no matter where it is located, just think about that for a moment.

What we all want is only of importance to us right here, right now, but who will care what we wanted back then in 100 years time, they'll be calling us dinosaurs for not moving on.

Let's just hope that we continue to support the team as well as we do now, no matter what decisions are made by the suits, and we pass that support on to & through the next generations.

I couldn't care less what they call it. They'd better get a good price though.

I care about what they call it. Some appalling corporate sell-out would be anathema to the traditions of the club. I realize the club has to do something and it's a balance between money and sentiment but the Halliburton Arena would be going too far.
                .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Agree, but we have to accept the inevitability of the situation. I could live with something like the Adidas Anfield stadium for example.

Seems to think Anfield - i say Anfield as well. My opinion has wavered, but ultimately some things have too high a price!

It all depends on how important it really is to keep the name Anfield. If we went for say The Adidas Anfield Stadium, then I don't think we'd get all that much dosh because everyone would still refer to it as Anfield. If however, we named it the Adidas Stadium then we'd get alot more cash. look at Arsenal, they didn't call the new stadium the Emirates Highbury stadium because you wouldn't get as much cash.

I'm always amazed people get so worked up about stadium naming rights yet I don't know 1 fan who would argue against shirt sponsorship. The red shirt is the most identifiable image of LFC & yet nobody bother that its got Carlsberg & Adidas scrawled all over it.

If I had my way i'd sell the stadium rights to the highest bidder & keep the Red shirt sponsor free a la Barcalona.

Yes, I can see that although Barcelona haven't done the expected with their shirt sponsorship. I reckon that's just a matter of time though.

Sorry Sir Bob, I'm bothered by it. It was great to see the youth team winning the cup without Carlsberg scrawled across their shirts.

I'm all for compromise though. I can live with selling off but I'd rather we didn't sell out.
