so are we coming to a conclusion that our full backs are the problem? in my opinion i don't even know why we signed degen! he's not even the swiss number 1 and thats saying sumthin! dossena i really can't put a finger on that guy, he shows potential and why he's the italian left back but then does sumthin ridiculous, in my opinion we could have spent the 7 or 8 mill we paid for him on wayne bridge or sum1 very similar! was gareth barry going to be our left back if we signed him?

This isn't defending it but Degan was a free so when we sell him for a couple of mill we'll be in profit, plus if he ever gets fully fit he is fine for back up to Arbeloa if we aren't giving Darby a go this season.
Dossena is the Italian 1st choice left back so he has to be better than he is showing currently. If he doesn't improve then we'll get our money back selling him to Italy or Spain.
What we are looking at is 6 players (Arbeloa, Aurellio, Degan, Dossena, Darby and Insua) who are our options at full back, Aurellio and Arbeloa are going to play 80% of the games if fit so there isn't a massive problem. The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Even Torres looked poor last night - like he wasn't bothered. There was a lethargy and torpor about everyone that seemed infectious. I guess we should remember that in one-off games anyone can beat anyone - that's why people like Cup competitions. Also, you cannot infer much about our squad's overall quality and the likelihood of us winning the PL from this game. Usually, these second tier players come in and play with better players - this inspires them and improves their game. Fortunately they don't have to play all together evry often! One final thing - Degen looked truly woeful in defence. Slow, ponderous. A bit better going forward, but right-back (like left-back) is a serious problem for us if our first choices get injured or suspended.....

I think part of the problem was that players are not too familiar with each other and leadership in midfield was lacking IMO, on paper at least, I didn't particularly care too much about the game and turned it off just before the first goal.
I think it would have been better to pair Lucas and Alonso together in midfield, that would have made a huge difference in the final outcome IMO, judging by what little I saw and what I have read.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

where to begin with this...
i dont think anyone did themselves any favours yesterday. We looked so far off the pace in the first half it was laughable.
Spurs didnt really do anything special to break us down they just had to put the ball in the box and wait for us to commit suicide which we did on 4 occasions.
The few plus points were
Lucas - i thought he had his best game for us last night but even then that's saying something because he wasnt exactly good. But he looks like he's getting better but still nowhere near a first team spot.
Agger - tried everything to steady a sinking ship but when you've got spastics like dossena and degen to carry what can you possibly expect.
Babel - looked like he fancied it lastnight - once the game was lost. But at least he didnt let his head drop and sulked. Everytime he got the ball he looked dangerous.
On the bad side -
degen - was awful and looked nowhere near full fitness. Doesnt even look like a professional footballer. no desire, no passion and not a liverpool player. Not in a million years.
Dossena - one of the posters said that they didnt think he would make it after a couple of games and I have to agree. He looks completely out of his depth at this level and even against spurs reserves he doesnt look like a defender. A lack of professionalism to put on weight by eating doughnuts just isnt good enough.
plessis - why dont we play spearing instead of this guy - goal apart he did nothing - passing wasnt great and he was supposed to be the defensive midfielder infront of the back - there were such big gaps there that you could have turned the titanic before he got back.
Ngog - that day has arrived when a player that cost over one million pounds cant control a pass into his feet. Bloody awful.
Im not going to have a go at sami because he has done an awful lot for us over the years but every year i find myself saying 'he looks a yard slower than last season'. But he wasnt given any help by degen.
a bad day at the office.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]

Chiellini has been playing CB for them. Not sure about Grosso. Dossena has started at left-back in most if not all of their WC Qualifiers this season.Originally posted by NicoBernetini View PostI thought Grosso is 1st choice or Chiellini

At least none of them are wearing flat caps ffs.
Flat caps are ace if worn with genuine intentions - older English gent, preferably from the north, tweed syoot, dog in tow, possibly a cane - but if it worn in this ostentatious, boyband, townie pukefest kinda way....you want ****ing shooting. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Hard to believe that we let Finan go. Look at what we have left,
Arbeloa: Plays one good game on the odd occassion.
Aurelio: Has never played a good game for Liverpool up until last weekend. He wasnt challenged defensively in that game so maybe that was the reason.
Degen: Early days but has failed to impress so far.
Dossena: Looked OK goining forward in the odd game but has never looked good when asked to defend.
On another note, WHAT THE HELL IS LUCAS PLAYING FOR? He must be savage in training, because he is terrible on the pitch.
Ohhh, he Brazilian!! So what!! My girlfriend has a Brazilian!! Should she play for Liverpool??

Is that a joke?Originally posted by ufc43 View PostAurelio: Has never played a good game for Liverpool up until last weekend. He wasnt challenged defensively in that game so maybe that was the reason.
Also, Finnan can't get a game for Espanyol (apparently, according to Mr Michael
). He was abject last season and, IMO, was rightly ditched.
