Jermaine Pennant is on his way out of Liverpool after being axed from their Carling Cup squad by the club's manager Rafa Benitez.
The 25-year-old winger would normally have been sure of a starting place for their fourth-round tie with Tottenham.

It is understood Benitez has run out of patience with Pennant's lifestyle and erratic timekeeping and will step up efforts to offload him in January.
Pennant alienated himself from Benitez in the summer by stalling over moves to Blackburn, Stoke and Everton. Two clubs agreed to meet a £4m asking price but pulled out over wage demands.

While I have to say I think Pennant has reached the end of the road with us and that his omission from the Carling Cup does appear telling this story irritates me for a number of reasons.

1/ After the summer Pennant was given a couple of chances so it would seem reasonable to say that he hadn't alienated himself from Rafa in the summer. It would also seem to indicate that Rafa isn't quite as capricious as some would like to make out with these things.

2/ I really hate these sorts of stories that cast aspersions on a players 'lifestyle' without offering any evidence. Sometimes I think the papers just play on Pennants past. However if he is not taking his career seriously I would like to know so I can move from feeling sorry that he hasn't fulfilled his potential to a position where I can say he only has himself to blame.

Why would he leave? His VIP lifestyle would not be the same at the likes of Stoke.
Playing for Liverpool must be a great thing to tell the ladies. Hope he goes and Degen too and Dossena because he is afraid of pacey players and in this league pace is a necessity for fullback. El Zhar, darby and Insua can cover these three no problem.
Oh the man is a midfield maestro
and his passes are sooo delightful

The fuller story is here. Probably where the Mail nicked it from.

        .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

.no wrote that he could leave for free next summer if he didn't play at least 15 games for the first team this season. If he reaches 15 his contract is automatically extended by one year. Seems strange

Hope we can offload him in January

indeed, at his age now he should have got his head straight and be producing the goods his talent is capable of doing.

Truth be told, He never was/is good enough to play for our Club, Rafa was only forced to buy him in the first place as he never had the proper funds to go out an get a proper Wide player in the first place.

Get rid Rafa no matter what it costs because he's shown by his refusal to go else where that money is his only motive and not the love needed to play for our great Club

Fook off Pennant you money grabing Ar$hole

Bellamy and Pennant are examples of a manager buying players for a top Premiership side without the funds to get the players he actually wants or needs....nothing else
I will always blame Moores and Parry.
