My point is that it's not worth lynching the bloke for it.
    Oooh, you telling me off?!!

OK, I agree it is not worth 'lynching' but my point is that it is simply not acceptable. That is all. I would not accept that from any of my players if I was Manager of this great club.

Nothing like a bit of hyperbole to emphasise your point
If you look back over this thread you will find more than the odd comment suggesting he should be got rid of because of this incident on top of the fact he's underperformed and got a bad reputation.

So while I obviously didn't mean it literally I think it's a valid description of what some would like to do to his Liverpool career.

FWIW I'd also like him to be transferred but these photographs have nothing to do with my point of view on that.
      .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

To be honest, i think he should be got rid of because he's not a very good player. But there's always been a question mark over his mentality and commitment, which are obviously important things too - and this incident merely adds weight to those arguments. He's clearly unprofessional, pretty stupid and doesnt come across as though earning a place in the first team is the most important thing on his mind.

Add those to the fact that he isnt a very good player, and it takes you to only one conclusion for me - that he should indeed be sold.

          Yes, I was.

As for whether it's "acceptable" behaviour, young men (and women) are bound to f*ck up from time to time and any manager who doesn't accept - by which I mean forgive - the odd transgression is not going to be a good manager. Of course that doesn't mean nothing should be said about it and it's perfectly reasonable to warn the player not to repeat it. That's partly why Jamie Carragher is still at the club despite the Christmas party incident all those years ago while Don Hutchison was moved on. If there's a pattern of such behaviour then it's right the manager ditches the player.

What I'm saying here is that we don't know whether there's a pattern of behaviour.

Christ almighty this is a god awful thread.

Does anyone really believe that other professional sportsmen don't drink? Obviously it is not the best thing for them but it will be a fact. I really think that as with the way everyone jumps on every interview he gives the reaction here has more to do with peoples preconceptions of Pennant than anything else.

On the other hand I do think he needs to learn that this is the environment in which he lives and start to take responsibility for his image if he wants to succeed as the lack of support seems to some degree bought about by his own actions. Largely though the level of opprobrium heaped on him seems ludicrous to me.

Oh thanks a lot. Some of us here - for instance, Craig, looprevil and me - have given the last nineteen hours of our lives to this thread. And do we get any thanks? Do we f***.

              It's hurtful.

The bottom line is this is about Pennant out in public with a bottle of whisky in his hand. Its not about anyone else or what anyone else might be doing.

Fact is Pennant was caught in this position and it does not reflect well on him. Innocent or not it is not professional, that is all.

Sure it has really divided opinions on here but try and see how Rafa would feel about it and then you have your answer if it was acceptable or not.

Haven't you heard mate? Every time a professional footballer takes a Class A narcotic they send Elvoz a picture message and an analysis of how good the gear was.

Why anyone wouldn't take this man's word as, sorry above, the word of God after the info he gave us on David Villa and Roy Keane is beyond me.
