but chelsea won 12 and drew 7 games at stamford bridge last year. You will alwyas have slip ups, every team does!!

If you look at the table it's quite obvious that Villa are the winners of the weekend.

They've got 1 less game to close the gap.

Every single game where they don't get more points than either us or Chelsea from here on in they're losing out.

Especially when we both have bad results leaving the door open for them.

I think people are missing the point here. At the start of the weekend, the best United could hope for was for the gap to remain the same - and it did.

The expectation was that they'd LOSE ground and they didnt.

I wasnt expecting them to lose ground, they had beaten Villa every single time they had played them for the last 9 years mate.

Not really sure that previous records mean more than current form, to be honest.

Villa are playing very well at the moment and United's away form has been inconsistent all season. There was every chance that they'd drop points and they did. They would've lost if the ref had been bold enough to award what was a clear penalty.

As i'd said though, the BEST they'd have hoped for was the same gap (you cant tell me that United were more likely to beat Villa away than we were to beat Fulham at Anfield) and they got that same gap that they'd have been hoping for.

A fair point, but I think we are probably the 3rd best team in the league. As such, we need to make breakthroughs when we get the chance. While we are still level on points with Chelsea, I regard them as favourites. If we get a few points ahead, the dynamic could change as we put pressure on our rivals. This game was a major let down and more damaging for our title hopes than I think some are acknowledging.

Whatever. I still feel a sense of relief that we didnt lose any ground when I look at the league table this morning, we got off lightly.

It`s all about what time-scale you use. Before the week-end they probably expected that the best they could do was keeping the same gap. But when their game started they could actually close the gap. They had a chance to close to close the gap, but didn`t. They will be disappointed with that. Their problem is that it`s not only one team that needs to slip up, but two. There won`t be many chances for them to close in on both in one week-end, and they missed this one.

We had a bad result, but it didn`t hurt us as much as it could (should).

You have changed your tune about Villa away, when we drew there it was a terrible result.
Anyways why worry about how United do, we should only be worried about ourselves and Chelsea.

The argument then rests about how many points the top teams could have reasonably expected to have won before they played their games this weekend.

I'm really not convinced that's worth worrying about.

The furthest I think it's worth going is to suggest our result was marginally worse than Man United's and the same as Chelsea's.

That said, no harm has been done. That's right, no harm at all.
                        .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Go back and check my posts about Villa away - most people went mental about it, but i was actually saying it wasnt a bad performance or result.

So no, i havent changed any tune. You'd make a terrible journalist, no researching done whatsoever. Although your articles would be factually incorrect, so you'd be in good company.
