still think rafa bought really poorly this summer though, spent far too much time wanking over gareth barry to actually try and address the lack of width and creativity we've always craved for in a modern liverpool team.
Was just thinking along the same lines. that perhaps our board have learned from the last seasons (and cost) of houller. giving an manager that seems to be moving backwards 2 seasons to turn things around isnt going to be done anymore i dont think. whoever the manager is.

Are you suggesting that's why they haven't given Rafa a new deal or am I totally missing your point?

I don't think it's fair to say Rafa's moving backwards at this stage, in fact I think it's clear by our league position that good progress is being made.

I think the major difference with Houllier was that he relied too much on players such as Diouf and Diao in particular and to a lesser extent Cheyrou. Benitez does play these players but it would be interesting to see how many full games each haas played.

If you look at Benitez's summer signings only Dossena hasnt really felt confortable, but Aurelio has played as much as him. Keane has contributed whilst not scoring the goals and certainly Riera has created great balance, but more often than not they are substituted or are a substitute during games. Kuyt consistent good form and Arbeloa has also played well means i think we wont fall inot the same trap again.
          Quit your jibber jabber!!!

Jermaine, you know the song Billie Jean...is it about the tennis player??

sorry what i meant was they wouldnt want to have extended his contract if things looked like they werent going in the right direction.

We are going forwards without a doubt this season.

learning from houllier's failure to take that final step in 2002 when we actually went backwards it seems the 4th year of a manager's reign seems to be a crucial juncture. i think rafa was either going to get extended or the boot come the end of this season.
