    Dossena and the weekend

This guy is a liability if Aurelio is injured we should play Carra on the right and Arbeloa on the left with Hyppia in the middle or Agger on the left with Carra and Hyppia in the middle.

I will give every 1 a chance but this guy has been found out and he did however make 1 decent challenge but at least 3-4 mistakes and Carra and Agger cant keep bailing him out.

Lets hope the rest drop points on Sunday and lets put pressure on them buy beating west ham but i hope benayoun or babel play and masch gets a break as we are playing at home and need to be more offensive and Torres is out as well.
    Players we should be signing:
Lallana, Lovren, Moreno, Vorm, Shaqiri , Memphis Depay and Adele Ali
    Players who should be going
Reina, Brad Jones, Coates, Kelly, Agger, Lucas, Assaidi, Suso, Borini, Aspas

The thing with Dossena is that all the plalyers were encouraging him despite his balls up, Carragher, Gerrard and Agger made points of it. Think back to Traore and Diao - Gerrard would run 60 yards to take the ball of them and pass it 5 yards.

I do think there is a good player some where in there but he looks like a cat stuck in the middle of headlights at the moment.
I make no apologies, this is me

Spot on. I was happy his nightmare didn't cost us, but this was European football against the lightweight Ben Arfa. Most foreign players struggle with the physical aspect of the English game. He couldn't rely on that excuse last night. Mind, in all fairness most of our team struggled with the very lively Ben Arfa.

Personally I feel he needs to get back to basics. Forget getting forward so much and cover his position. Boot the ball into touch if he has a problem, seems scared to kick it out and concede possession. Get those right and he will start to find the confidence to play his own style of game.

I know he is not rubbish, he is an Italian international and was wanted by all the top Italian clubs in need of a left back in the summer, Roma and Juventus for example. Clearly he has the potential, and above all knows how to defend.

But if Morientes and Veron can fail to adapt so can anyone.
      Forwards.......

Dossena will be man of the match against West Ham. I am 100% confident of that

No you're not, but I admire your optimism. I don't doubt his quality, just his confidence. But I tell you what, if he was MOTM I don't think Fabio would get back in the side.

I only think it would take one excellent performance to get him firing.

Okay im not. But seriously, there is talent in there somewhere and its just bursting to come out.

Btw danny, i couldnt be bothered to make the effort to type out a well written response to your thread but can i just say that i believe Arbeloa on current form is one of our best players. He has been superb this season. I mean that.

First of I will say that all the comments I made for the majority of that were based on last season and what most of this site wanted.

Based on last seasons performances the RB was one of the positions where we lacked cover due to Rafa wanting rid of Finnan. This was added to the indifferent performances of Arbeloa.

As I kept saying I thought we had decent cover in the squad to mean any player we were looking to sign should be a first teamer.

This year Arbeloa has been good. But if Degen or Darby do not step up to the plate we still need a right back. If we were to sign one I would see no point in buying a reserve, as I still think we have enough quality in the squad. So again I would be looking for someone to come in and seriously challenge Arbeloa for the RB spot.

There comes a time in the building of a squad that the only way forward is by buying genuine first XI players. I thought we reached that point last year.

If Degen or Darby prove able deputys for the RB spot I would see no need to bring a RB in as I'm happy with Arbeloa. If not I would look to better him.

Does that make sense at all?

Yeah. Im really happy with Arbeloa at the moment, he has been superb lately. I have high hopes for Darby and i think Rafa does too. If he wasn't injured just now i think he would have been on the bench ahead of Kelly last night

I'm really suprised with the positive posts in this thread. The first one was very negative and I can understand where the poster is coming from, but I agree with everyone else and I really hope he comes good.

Great point by Deano about other players encourging him, Carra is the type of player who if he thinks someone is a waste of space he wouldn't bother.

DannyMan - I see where you're coming from about Arbeloa and I agree, if Rafa decides Deagen and Darby are to be sold we should try and buy someone world class, but Arbeloa has earned his place in the team with his performances this season.

Insua should get the chance. He has played a few games in the league so it wouldn't really be a gamble to play him. He hasn't done a single bad game for us so far.

He is our best available option.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

As a bit of man management that would be suicidal. There'd be no way back for Dossena if he was over looked for the game on Monday.

I'd give him another chance. I like Insua, but you can't just kick a player of Dossena's ability into touch like that.

dossena should be sold. i don't know who's more deluded - rafa for playing him or some of u who think they see a spark of something in him. this lad has done nothing so far. sorry if u find that painful but its the truth.

skertl and agger were excellent buys. arbeloa and aurelio are good players. dossena is way way out of his depth.

I see talent in because before these 2 poor months he has had he built a career as a solid left back who regularly gets in the italian team. What you are failing to understand is that the key problem for Dossena is that he is currently off the pace and short of confidence because he himself knows that.

I watched him close up against Rangers in pre-season and the lad was brilliant. I mean he was brilliant. That goal line clearance he made in that game was unbelievable. He was miles away from the ball and somehow made the most astonishing saving clearance. He also delivered some top quality crosses in that game. So unlike you, i have seen him play very very well for us and i still have hope that he can turn it around. Btw he made a couple of crucial last defender tackles against Marseille

traore cleared a ball off the line in the most significant game in modern times. still got sold.

voronin looked world class in the frendlies last year and look what happened.

i don't care about italy this is the premiership.

doseena is fat, he has no positional awareness, have yet to see him beat a man, far too easily gets pushed off the ball and the sooner he is sold the better. what will it take for guys like you to agree we bought the wrong player?

                              Time.
                              .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.
