It's good to point out when we're right because of the amount of stick we get for a view that the majority don't agree with

Add to the fact that there are people on here who crow when we win a game and tell the realists to **** off or tell them they were wrong

It does but it doesn't make it any more entertaining or less tedious.

Not to mention the fact that most people had some doubts about Keane. From the initial comments you would think that either a/ something had actually happened to indicate that Rafa was in fact going to sell him rather than merely a story in a sensationalist paper or b/ everyone had been saying that Keane had in fact been tearing up the PL.

Most people have been saying we should give Keane a chance. Some (even some of the so called positive posters) have suggested that he should be benched.

The Bascombe story basically wrote itself once Keane was benched - I'm not sure that anyone should have that much faith in it. Bascombe has called as many things right as he has wrong - for every Keane in there has been a no big signings before we bought in Torres and Babel.

Right about what though? And who says you're "right"? Some tabloid hack has predicted Keane's and Dossena's exit in January and all of a sudden you & rage were 'right'?

Keane has been well and truly pants for us - I don't think anyone would disagree - so I'm not sure what you've got to crow about there. He was the Premiership's leading goalscorer in 2007 and although plenty had doubts no-one could have predicted such a poor start to his LFC career.

And if Dossena is sold back to Italy, then so what? What's to crow about? Anyone would think the likes of rage and yourself would be pleased to see him fail, so you could crow about it all over the forums.

Look...the aim of most 'realists' this season was to challenge for the title. We're top. We're challenging. I think it's pretty clear the perennial doom mongers are really having to scrape the barrel to claim their bit of glory.

I've never been keen on Keane. There, I've said it. I haven't said it before because I was giving him a chance, not because I thought he was a good (enough) player.

I have two mates who are huge Spurs fans and their comments have consistently been along the lines of "Levy say you coming."

I only mention it now because I don't see why people who can't hold on to their own doubts - and I'm of the opinion that what's said on forums like this can have an effect on reality, although obviously only to a small degree - and have an unrealistic view of the world in general or at least football in particular should take any credit, as if there is any to be had, for writing off a player in public so early, even if events do eventually prove them and, in this case, me right.

My apologies for the plethora of subordinate clauses in that last sentence.
          .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

I had the impression you weren't a big fan of his.

I have to say I thought more of him as a player than he has shown. I did however feel that he was part of a second choice package of transfers with Riera (Other than Barry in - Alonso out I have no idea what the rest of the plan would have been and it may well have included Riera). We needed to change some aspects of our play and to add a forward to the squad. Changing the team shape to accommodate Keane seemed a gamble but I could see the logic in getting a player who had formed a number of successful PL partnerships and IMO could play the lone striker in place of Torres if we pushed midfielders up the pitch to support him.

We were always going to pay a premium for a late transfer with Keane but I think the terms of the deal are important when deciding on how big a gamble the transfer is/was.

I still think that Keane could well have something to offer and that we do still need another goal threat. having seen him learn and adapt before I'm more inclined to give him time. Spurs fans I know tend to feel that he is a streaky player - I think though that when he was with them he did some things consistently that we still need - running to the back post on crosses being a prime one.

I've said elsewhere that I think a big problem when looking for a partner for Torres is that his personal movement is so good you need someone inclined to play much deeper or wider and by doing either of those things you reduce the impact a forward is likely to have. This is part of the reason I feel that Gerrard - Torres works so well. Even with that pairing though we lacked goals from the team as a whole - if one or both was off form we didn't have much to go to. Kuyt has helped but as I said I feel we still need someone else in the team/squad who delivers goals.

I certainly agree there's still time for him to come good. Anyway I'll happily admit I wasn't all that keen on Riera (although that was on virtually no evidence whatsoever - I don't know whether that's to my credit or not ) and I'm wrong about him.

I still think that in principle he's an improvement on what we had but he has yet to show it and, formation notwithstanding, I could just about see the logic even though £20m was more than a bit steep.

I also agree that having some idea of the plan would help and we don't really know that. In the summer all we had to go on was that Rafa seemed to like 4-2-3-1 and with Gerrard about I didn't see how Keane fitted into our "first eleven" (which, to be honest, we know is virtually meaningless for Rafa, at least in an ideal world) and you'd have thought £20m players would be "first eleven players".

Lol, I think ye are all geting sucked into this media hype, It is not all keanes fault, That is for sure, The delivery of balls he has had to work with is nowhere near as good as it should be, even the games nando has played you could see he was geting frustrated towards the end of some of them.. Keane is a very good player, that wont change over night and i would bet that he will be a very important player for us in the second half of this season. When the team start to play better as a unit you will see a much improved robbie keane.
Rafa was right to rest him, robbie just needs to take a back seat for a game or two and cool the Jets.

The only reason Keane didn't play was because of his attitude. This would be also be the only reason why he'd be sold in January. He had a few words to say coming off the pitch on monday and I think that sums up his sentiments towards Rafa at the moment (and maybe vice versa).

I think of the 20 million we did pay, 5 million was for the vast experience he would bring already at his age and the prediction was that he would slot into the team effortlessly. If you also take into account he was a star player signed from a club who also have serious ambitions, I can just about justify the 20 million paid.
