Not sure whether thats a good thing or a bad thing. Don't get me wrong - fantastic that he gets recognition but Garth Crooks's team of the week is hardly something to be happy about. At the end of the day, it is Garth Crooks who once said:

    'Chelsea 0-0 Newcastle
    Liverpool 0-0 Fulham
    Aston Villa 0-0 Manchester United

Its a great day for the Premiership'

Insua, was absolute class and within in 10 minutes of him being on the park I was thinking I could looking at our first choice left back for years to come. Would love to see him get a run, off the back of that performance he deserves one

Well if you think about it, it was a great day as it shows that the lesser teams have what it takes to match their bigger opponents. No one wants a a permanent upper and lower class. They want an open and competitive league.

I thought that too. He played it safe by passing back to Hyypia a lot but that could be due to bugger all movement from Babel for most of the match. If Riera was on, he would have found him and passed it forward.

A great game from the young lad and I think we have some good competition for the left back position. Now for the right back!

Yeah completely agree, Babble was shocking. Like I said in another thread, I can only see him being effective off the bench when there are a lot of tired legs out there on the left wing or Starting up front but not starting on the left. What annoyed me more is his lack of motivation to chase after the ball, once his swan song move was done thats it hands on the hips lets go for a stroll whilst 10 of his team mates are sprinting to retain possession. To be fair I have never seen a lot from that guy to make me say wow, sure he has talent but we see it all to sporadically .. could be wrong and dont want to be too hard on the lad, I must be hell playing out of position in a top team but you plays your cards .. Hopefully he'll come good 2nd half of the season or at Least Rafa will give him a run in a more advanced position

I can just hear him saying that. I find him unwatchable.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I thought he played well - I think everyone's always delighted when someone who's been plugging away in the reserves comes along and makes the step up.

Don't want to turn this into a Dossena thread because christ knows there's been enough of those already but you have to wonder what a surprise inclusion like that means for the Italian. Or maybe Rafa was just assessing his options and it means nothing.

                Anyway, well done Emily.

Insua's selection might mean we have the option of selling Dossena back to Italy in Jan so Rafa is checking if Insua is ready to step in more regularly.

Or it just might mean that he has deserved his chance through performances in training and ressie games.

So that's Insua, El Zhar, Plessis, Hobbs who have all had a sniff of 1st team action over the last 12 months, Rafa never gives the youngsters a chance according to some

I would suggest that while it could mean that Rafa has given up on Dossena (he has seen more than we have if you consider training etc.) that it is equally likely to mean that he has decided that relying upon Aurelio is not feasible long term.

It will be interesting to see who starts against PSV - assuming Insua is in the CL squad.

More generally while it was a good game for him I think people are getting carried away a bit here. Blackburn barely tested him defensively.

I wonder if he'd have been picked ahead of Dossena against, say, Man United. Oh well, who's to say?

                            Agree with all of that.

I doubt that Rafa gave up Dossena after what was probably his best performance in the red shirt. As seen below

                              Liverpool CL squad

Insua ain't in the CL squad. Dossena was probably rested for the PSV game.
Nonetheless good debut by Emiliano and hopefully we'll see him playing more in the coming months.
