Need tough characters for end of season run. Crouch is twice the player. Why go one step forward, two steps back. Barca prove that you can play without a big target man.

I really, really hope there is no truth in this story.

Sell Pennant and, if needed, Benayoun. Bring in Guba.

I don't know if Crouch is twice the player, Capello would seem to think otherwise and he's a pretty good judge.
While Heskey isn't the 'best' player we could get he could well be the best player to compliment what we already have in Keane, Benny, Alonso, Kuyt and Gerrard etc..
What was it Rafa said at Valencia about wanting a lampshade and getting a sofa??? something like that basically saying it's about signing the right player that suits the team not the most talented player.
The fact he isn't cup tied and helps with the home grown rule thing is a massive bonus imo.

Back to Insua I think Rafa is bringinging him along brilliantly, little spells in the squad, the odd game here and there continuing his development without rushing him too soon.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Wash your mouth with soap and water!!! Don't you know that Rafa is useless at developing youngsters in our reserve set up and refusing to play them??!!!

well if you compare insua to the kid playing right back at utd i'd say that's an accurate assessment.

            FFS do you ever stop!

They are more or less the same age. Insua has played 8 games for us. Rafael da Silva has played 6 for United and he's only been playing those due to injuries to senior players ahead of him. Insua has had 2 experienced full internationals ahead of him the whole time he's been here and is being eased in slowly when appropriate.

On a like for like basis, I'll use the Rafael's twin brother who, like Insua, is a left back - has he played yet for Utd?? No, thought not.

Let's be fair here. When Rafael has played for Man Utd he has been very good, he seems to play with no fear and gets forward very well. At the back he is however quite questionable.

When Insua has played he seems to be quite reserved, we all know what he is capable of having seen him in the reserves. In the first team I have as yet not seen any of his brilliance when going forward - which the lad has in spades.

And as others pointed out, Rafael has go his chance due to injuries to Brown and Neville, and none of their centre backs are versatile enough to cover RB. Where as we have Carra who can cover anywhere and Agger who can fill in at left back.

Any player at full back at LFC will have to impress through playing time in the reserves as opposed to getting a chance through injuries.

                  ----------------

The biggest hurdle to over come for a reserve player is getting themselves starting time in the first team. They then have to go from a poor standard reserve level to being able to compete in the best league in the world. So they have to be right on their game to get a chance.

With regards Insua he has never yet had a bad game, but nor has he made anyone sit up and take notice. No problems when you are a defender. Bets way to be in fact. I'm happy with his progress as long as Rafa keeps giving him the odd game here and there.
                  Forwards.......

i know but they're of a similar age and no doubt he plays plenty of reserve games for them. how much did they pay for him anyway, looks a cracking player?

that's your opinion, mine is we should have encouraged him to make the step up this year and not spent 7 million on doseena.

We needed another experienced left-back. We really couldn't have gone into this season with only the injury prone Aurelio and an inexperienced kid in that position. Insua may be ready to take up a permanent position in the squad next season but not yet. He still needs to pick up a bit more experience at this level before we can put ourselves in the position of having to rely on him game in game out.

Not to sure how much they got him for but he does look a great find. I hate Fergi but he does know a good player when he sees one.

i thought arbeloa on the left was cover enough without buying dossena but i take your point. if doseena settles i think its the end of aurellio who is just too injury prone and insua making the step up
