Another good game yesterday, was glad to see he got some mentions in the Mom thread. -
He did okay but lets not go overboard!
He started poorly, gave away some silly fouls and looks scared to head the ball but he grew in confidence a bit and played some nice passes later on.
Hopefully he can take some confidence from the good things he did because he'll be needed on Boxing Day if Masch is still unwell.Comment

He played well I thought, but he'll need to play like that much more often. His confidence should be growing though as he has put in two decent performances v PSV and Arsenal recently. He looks a better player away from Anfield for some reason.
Also thought Insua was superb.Comment

dont know which game you were watching but he was **** again yesterday. Getting better, but still gives away far too many stupid free-kicks in his own half, and doesn't really impose himself on a game as Mascher, Gerrard and Alonso do in their own different ways.
Keep improving though Lucas, you might surprise me yet and make it as a first team regular.Comment

The point here is you're supposing Lucas's limitations (in your opinion) are behind Alonso not getting forward. I think it's perfectly possible that, in Mascherano's absence, Alonso, as the more experienced of the two central midfielders, had been told to hold. I don't know but then again I'm not the one using Alonso's positioning yesterday as a way of bashing Lucas..

I've said for a while that a/Licas is a good player and b/ that Lucas - Alonso is a good basis for the team. As far as I can tell the problem with the team has become that Gerrard and the two wide players are not getting close enough to the striker and their movement isn't good enough. All to often at the minute we get very congested in the central area between the halfway line and the final third.
When Torres plays his pace and movement push the opposition defense back but when we don't have that we have to look to use the attacking four more creatively to make that space.
