Good old King Kenny, he only just stopped short of giving Gerrard an alibi there...
      Kenny Dalglish.
Dalglish, who, along with his wife, Marina, had shared a drink with Gerrard earlier on Sunday night, but left before the alleged fracas.

Kenny said: "Marina and I were just speaking to him shortly before it happened and he was completely coherent and respectful".

"He was talking to us about helping Marina’s charity and the whole group he was with were well behaved – good as gold"

"I am sure he needs a great deal of support at this time, which he will get from Liverpool FC and the people of Liverpool."

I heard from a very reliable source, that they have concrete evidence that he was involved in it, from cctv footage, but they doubt he will be go down for it.

He's incredibly smart in his use of the media. His mentioning that he has spoken to the lawyers at first seems a bit odd. However it is his way of letting the supporters know we needn't worry too much.

This is the part-time DJ soccer ace Steven Gerrard is accused of attacking in a nightclub brawl - with his front tooth missing.

Marcus McGee, 34, lost his top right front tooth and needed four stitches in a head wound after the bust-up at 2.30am on Monday.

The father of two refused to comment yesterday as he left his bungalow home in Southport, Mersyside.

Gerrard, 28, who was welcomed back to training by Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez yesterday, will appear in court with two other men later this month charged with actual bodily harm and affray.

Steven Gerrard put a miserable 48 hours behind him yesterday as he laughed and joked with teammates.

The Liverpool skipper was described as "a nice person" by boss Rafa Benitez as he returned to training the day after police charged him with assault and affray.

England star Gerrard, 28, who has vowed to clear his name, arrived at Liverpool's Melwood training ground in his black Range Rover Sport.

He smiled as he chatted to fellow players including Fernando Torres and Brazilian star Lucas.

Manager Benitez, who greeted him with a comforting pat on the shoulder, said the club would be standing by him. He added:

"Steven is our captain and a key player for us, but more than this, I know him as a nice person."

Gerrard was arrested at 2.30am on Monday after violence flared at the Lounge Inn bar in Southport.

He is due to appear before magistrates on January 23, with John Doran, 29, and Ian Gerard Smith, 19.

All three are charged with assault and affray.

Three other men were released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish was with Gerrard in the bar just 30 minutes before the fight broke out.

The ex-player and manager, who was with wife Marina, said the star seemed happy as he celebrated Christmas with some friends and signed autographs.

He said: "We were totally shocked next morning when we found out what had happened.

There was no indication of any trouble."

Dalglish added: "Now Stevie needs people to support him, and he couldn't be at a better club for that.

"The Steven Gerrard I know is not just a great footballer but a really good person as well.

"He tries hard to be normal, that's why he is out with old friends. He's not someone with security guards."

              Assault
There are different levels of assault
Section 39 (normally known as common assault) this is were no or little injury is caused - a push, a slap or even a weak punch would fall into this catagorie.

Section 47 (normally known as Actual Bodily Harm or ABH for short) this is were some form of none serious injury is caused such as heavy bruising, small cuts, grazes.

Section 20 ( normally known as Grevious Bodily harm, or GBH, without intent ). This is when the injury is more serious - broken bones, more serious cuts (not sure exactly but I think it is when 9 or more stitches are required) - the main thing with this offence is that it is used when it is thought that there was no intent to cause this level of injury (no weapons used)

Section 18 (normally known as Greivious Bodily Harm, or GBH, with intent. This when the injury is at the same level as a secton 20 assault but were it is believed that there was intent to cause this level of injury ie when weapons are used. Anything from glassing someone, stabbing, beaten with a bat, hammer etc.

These are all assaults but just at different levels. Gerrard being charged with ABH makes me think the Police either can't proove he caused the broken tooth or that he hasn't caused the broken tooth, if they did he would have been charged with GBH.

Regarding the court case, this willl go to court, it is a criminal proceeding and as such can not be settled out of court. It is not possible to pay someone off. It may not go to trial - but this would be dependant on Gerrard pleading guilty at first appearance. In this instance it would go straight to sentencing.

The time to worry is if the sentencing part of the case went to Crown. Magistrates can only sentence up to 6 months imprisonment. If the sentencing part of the case went to Crown then hes in real trouble.
The charge of Affray is used to take the case from Magistrates court to Crown court

Well it looks like he took one hell of a beating FOUR stitches ? I find it hard to believe that a bottle/glass was used,I have had bigger wounds ****ing shaving ,Although I dont condone it when more than 1 person sets upon another this is hardly the evidence of a brutal bashing by Stevie and his mates and i also think the police have gone slighty overboard with the charges assault yes but ABH and affray? cmon , I will eat my hat if Stevie has more than just a fine for this , dont panic peeps is my advice and after Rafa hearing the full story off stevie and his lawyer and still comes out in support this just strenghthen the arguement that this was something out of nothing.

It's a cert that the place had cctv, and it will have had at least one camera on the dj area for sure, & for the exact reason we now find our selves discussing....no.. not just to catch Stevie, but for the security of an employee..the dj, and to have evidence should anything happen.

I had hoped that the owner was a big mate of Gerrard, and a "the cctv was off officer" would be the response or a missing tape maybe, but it's very possible that the owners only have the Dj's interests at heart, and have helped the police in full, which looks to be the case as we stand, as they wasted no time in charging them, they could have bailed them and made further inquiries.

I reckon Stevie's being stitched up in all this.

Maybe I'm missing something but in all this commotion I've not seen one mention in the media of a glass or bottle being thrown, except on internet forums.

Seems to me like he's got caught up something he never looked for. Some dirty manc has had a go and his mates have jumped in to protect him. For the most part I feel this is true, but I can't help thinking there are some on here who relish the thought of him being in trouble.

Steven Gerrard assault charge: Another man arrested

ANOTHER man has been arrested over a brawl in Southport which Liverpool FC captain Steven Gerrard is appearing in court for later this month.

The 19-year-old from Huyton was brought in by police this afternoon on suspicion of assault and affray, after the incident at the Lounge Inn on December 29.

Gerrard, 28, with two friends John Doran, 29, and Ian Smith, 19, both from Huyton, is charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.

They three were among a group of six held at Southport Police Station for close to 24 hours.

The fracas allegedly broke out over a song choice and left local businessman and part-time DJ, Marcus McGee, with facial injuries.
The midfielder faces Magistrates in Sefton on January 23.

This newly arrested man just so happens to be Coleen Rooney's brother Anthony.

                              The plot thickens.

Coleen Rooney's brother was questioned by police yesterday over the incident outside a Merseyside nightclub which led to the arrest of Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.

A spokesman for the wife of Wayne Rooney confirmed Anthony McLoughlin, 19, was taken into custody on Tuesday.

"All we can say is to confirm he was arrested and confirm he was released without charge," he declared.

"There will be no other comment from Coleen, Wayne or Coleen's family."

Merseyside police confirmed Mr McLoughlin was released pending inquiries yesterday.

Liverpool captain Gerrard was charged along with two other men after an incident outside the Lounge Inn in Southport, Merseyside in December.

It alleged the club's DJ Marcus McGee, 34, received stitches to his face and lost a tooth in the fight.

The 28-year-old footballer is due to appear in court next week, along with John Boran, 29, and Ian Gerrard Smith, 19, both from Huyton.
