    Alonso's injury

Any news on it? Didn't like the look of that cast on his foot. Very bad news if he's out for a long period.
It's easy to distract fat people. It's a piece of cake.

    REDS WAITING ON ALONSO NEWS
    Paul Eaton 03 January 2009
Liverpool are waiting to discover the extent of Xabi Alonso's injury after the Spaniard limped out of the Reds' 2-0 FA Cup success at Preston.
Alonso failed to reappear for the second half after colliding with a Preston defender in the closing seconds of the opening period, and assistant boss Sammy Lee revealed the club won't know the extent of any damage for at least 24 hours.

"Unfortunately Xabi has had seven stitches in his instep," he said after the game.

"We do not know the full extent of the injury, apart from the fact he will be very sore tonight.

"Hopefully there will be no damage but we won't know for the next 24 or 48 hours."

Meanwhile, Lee paid tribute to Steven Gerrard who put his recent troubles behind him to turn in a wonderful midfield display - capped by an injury time assist for substitute Fernando Torres.

"Steven is a top professional," he said. "He has the full support of this football club. You have seen what he is today, a footballer. He produced a terrific performance, he is a modern professional and we're all behind him. He's a great servant to this club, a terrific ambassador and we'll continue to support him throughout."

Torres' late goal finally killed off the challenge of Preston, who had fallen behind to a first half Albert Riera strike as Liverpool ensured they wouldn't be the victims of any Cup shock.

"Preston made it hard for us. We knew it was going to be a battle but we withstood the battle and withstood the challenge," added Lee.

Stitches on the instep? That's just a 'cut' in clear English isn't it?

Doesn't sound like broken bones or twisted ligaments.
    One tit for another.

Yes, it was probably just very painful to stand on and they didn't want to protect the stitches. He'll be fine.

Robbie keane's confidence or lack of it caused Alonso's injury tonight imo, If Keane had scored two out of the many chances he had before this incident there is no way on earth he would have tapped the ball back towards the edge of the six yard box to Reira I think? The ball was crossed for him at the far post and he should have burried it but because he had missed a few sitters earlier he had no confidence and just rolled it back across the box ,Am I just being synical or did anyone else see it?

            he shouldve buried it yes.

hes had a strange season, great in some games then missing a host of sitters in others.

Hope Xabi's ok,he's vital to our continued presence at the top of the table

Keane causing Alonso to get injured?

Keane missed a **** load of sitters today but I really don't think you can blame him for causing an injury to Alonso, if that's what you're saying
                Hello mert.

I am saying that yes, IF he had taken the shot on (instead of squaring it) there would have been no follow up from Alonso ( which caused the injury) . For those of you with a black and white set we was in the red

Ifs and buts, ifs and buts.

The collision happened after keane pulled it back, keane pulling it back didn't cause the injury.

Keane was doing what he thought was right for the team imo. Sure he should have thumped it into the back of the net when he had the chance but that's not your point is it?!

I agree if's and butts . and after downing a babysham I am still in the opinion that a confident robbie keane would have and should have burried that chance , hence a fit Alonso , my point being that Robbie keane's lack in confidence after missing a few sitters led to him laying the ball off which led to Alonso's injury. Now if a sharp shooter stood on the grassy knoll there would have been no reason for the **** in the book store. hence leading to L.H Oswald taking the rap, and if Jack the ripper had a tweezers instead of a scalpel we would'nt be talking about him at all , now I aint got a time machine and I got a crystal ball but if's and butts are very good .If it wasn't for if's and butts and opinions you would be reading an extract from harry Potter and the jackson 5 , but because of if's and butt's you are reading an opinion in a football forum , But Thanks for your opinion . much appreciated . now im off to find my tweezers I dropped on the grassy knoll while reading the new harry potter book and have another babysham ( with Ice)

Its a cut. I would expect him back for Stoke.

I wasn't too worried when I saw him strolling down the touchline in the 2nd half.
