Alonso's injury

I'm surprised that no definitive news about his injury has come out yet. They have had enough time to scan and analyze the injury, so I'd expect a press statement shortly - hopefully around lunch time.
Hope it's not too bad. Talk of three months out is ****ing scarey. Xabi has been truly WORLD CLASS this season and losing him for a protracted period could destabilize our title effort. Fingers crossed he's OK : prays:It's easy to distract fat people. It's a piece of cake.

When I had a hernia operation my stitches were taken out after only 5 days, so do I win a prize?Originally posted by powerpack View PostAgree with PoolG, usually stitches stay in between 7 and 14 days depending on their location. He'll probably be ok to play a few days after they come out (as long as there's no other damage). This site is normally handy for injury updates, although nothing about Alonso or Mascher yet...

Whereas you knew the best system all along.Originally posted by The Birdman View PostIf he's out for a bit move Gerrard back, Keane into role off Torres which has to be why he was bought in the first place and hey presto no.19, sometimes injuries mean you stumble across the best system!
I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.

It says 'no return date' here so they don't know the extent of the injury yet so lets not panic.Originally posted by corbylpfc View Postsome lad was on fox phone in here in new York, a scouser, and he said that've heard alonso would be out for 3 months! Fcuk I hope he's wrong !!!!!!!!!
On a brighter note doesn't say anything about Mascher being injured so hopefully his hamstring injury was nothing more then a scareThis city has two great football teams – Liverpool and Liverpool reserves

That could mean he's never coming back.
Don't panic, don't panic!

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

Joking aside do you not think that was rafa's plan in the summer, trying to sell Alonso, trying to buy Barry, buying Keane??Originally posted by mersey86 View PostWhereas you knew the best system all along.
The only rational formation if Alonso left and Barry joined was -
----Torres----
Barry-Keane-Kuyt
--Gerrard-Mascher--
Add that to Pepe and Carra plus 3 and you have the formation Rafa wanted in the summer.
All I'm saying is sometimes injuries force a selection that turns out to be inspired but probably wouldn't have happened with everyone fit.The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

That's a fair point ... though Rafa never seems to have one set lineup in mind. Rotation early in the season and steady formation for the run-in, with maybe a little tinkering depending on the fixture.Originally posted by The Birdman View PostJoking aside do you not think that was rafa's plan in the summer, trying to sell Alonso, trying to buy Barry, buying Keane??

Keane --- Torres --- Kuyt
Barry --- Mascher --- Gerrard
but I like the way we're playing with Mascher and Alonso in front of the back four, as soon as one of the fullbacks bombs up the field Alonso drops back into defence and Mascher still holds the line

Good News from the Official Website
Liverpool will wait until the end of the week before deciding if Xabi Alonso is fit to face Stoke City on Saturday.
The Spanish midfielder is recovering from a foot injury sustained at Preston at the weekend which foced him to be substituted at half time.
Despite resuming training at Melwood, manager Rafael Benitez today revealed Alonso may need more time for the wound to heal before he can return to competitive football.
"Xabi trained yesterday but the problem is he had seven stitches so clearly it depends if he can put boots on and kick the ball," said Benitez today.
"For running and training I think he will be okay but we have to decide at the end of the week about his boots.
"If he can kick a ball he could be available for Stoke but we will have to wait and see."
Benitez expects Javier Mascherano to recover from an ankle knock in time for the trip to the Potteries, but Alvaro Arbeloa is expected to again miss out with a hamstring problem.
"Arbeloa is improving but I think he will need another week," added Benitez. "Hopefully next week he can train normally again."This city has two great football teams – Liverpool and Liverpool reserves
