Aspirations and expectations

If we rewind to the close season when Keane and Riera arrived we debated here what our expectations and asperations were. Most here including me wanted a title challenge, to be in the pot come May and not just the CL qualification as our aim.

Now Christmas has arrived, we are top, Arse are firing blanks, Manure and Chelsea have coughed and farted their way to Christmas and it must be said bar Newcastle we have not set the division alight.

We have Torres and Skittles back and we are doing well in the mini-league (against the top4).

So do we still have the same expectations, will we be happy by hanging in there when the Mancs and Chelski hit top form (if they do) or do we now believe our own forum hype and now expect us to push on and win number 19?

So where do others stand, change of expectation (Champions) or still content with giving Chavs and Scum a run for their money and finish top 3.

Considering we are were we are despite not playing that great, I think we can push on and win No 19.

Torres and Skittles coming back gives me great confidence but we do need injurys to be kind in the run home.

I know my expectations are evolving, from just wanting to mount a challenge to actually winning the league.

Sadly I would. Add Stevie, Carra, Pepe and even Xabi to that list and I'd still argue until it was mathematically impossible.

This year was different though, like many others there really was a real belief that this could be a special year.

It would be but 90% or so of us at the start of the season wanted a challenge. We're getting one and I strongly suspect we'll get one until the death. Although it would be a crushing disappointment if we failed to win the title, most pre-season aspirations and expectations would've been met/exceeded.

I honestly believe if Torres stays fit and gets anwhere near last season's form, we'll be nigh-on unstoppable.

TBH if many of those on here looked back at what they first thought the team might achieve and what they have done, they might realise the team are doing better than first expected....

start of the season I was hoping for a close 3rd and a cup, expectations have changed and a close 2nd is prob the least I'd expect now, TBH I'm not sure we're strong enough mentally to go on and win it but I'll be first at the bar if we do

Nice thread title. The only reply I can think of is we might have blackholes and revelations as the season goes on. ;-)

Of course it's a team game, but if Gerrard and Torres play at their peak for the next 18 league games, we will win the title. No doubt in my mind about that.

I suspect if the midfield stays fit, we would run them close without Torres.

We havent had a better chance for a long long time........Be careful but the tide may be turning again!
