    Insua away for a month

Insua called up to Argentina squad
    By Richard Buxton - 05/01/2009 15:12

Liverpool's Emiliano Insua will miss the next month of the domestic season after being picked to represent Argentina in the Under-20 South American Championships.

The tournament runs from January 19 until February 8 and is staged every two years. This year it is being held in Venezuela.

The left back, who played in the Reds' last four games, will be on international duty until February 8. This means that he will miss Saturday's league encounter with Stoke City and the league and FA Cup games against Everton as well as Liverpool's clash with Chelsea on February 1.

Another Red who will be at the tournament is reserve defender Ronald Huth who will be representing Paraguay.

I hate these internationals in the middle of the season. Finally we have a left back playing well and on top a youngster breaking in to the team, and now this happens...

WTF happened to that international calendar???

Guess this means Dossena gets another chance to take a foothold in the team.

I thought Aurelio is now fit, I think he will start before the tanker.

Those that killed her, were following the law.

Agreed, trouble is it's always a question of fit for how long with him.

He definitely won't last the month

Should be a good experience for Insua, shame to lose him now but no point ranting about it. As with all good South American or African players, if you sign them you have to accept they'll be jetting off at inconvenient times.

Yeah, for proper international tournements, fair enough. But for the under 20s? Ridiculous.

Aurelio will struggle to stay fit for a month.

I'd play Arbeloa left and Carra right. We've got Agger and Sami for CB as well as Skrtel back to fitness.

It's not ideal but what can you do?

If I was him I'd wouldn't go. His career would be far better served cementing his place in the Liverpool team

Insua has been great for us these past couple of weeks. Some important games coming up to, lets hope Aurellio is up to the job.

Agree. Just hope he stays fit.

I won't be going to the bookies to check the odds though
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Fair point. Unfortunately it seems Argies are always desperate to turn out for the national side.

And can he refuse to go and then turn up for us?
It will also probably also damage his future in the senior side, something you can be sure he don`t want to.

                        Still, very unfortunate timing.

I don't know if he can refuse, or even wants to, it just seems sensible for all sides. If I was Maradona I'd rather my future left back was nailing down a first team place at a top club.

But we know how much playing for their country means to them so if he's called up, he goes.

As an Argentinian footballer, there's no greater honour than playing for the national team. Rafa knows this, which is why he always relents to Masch. This was probably all cleared ages ago, before Insua recently broke into the 1st team picture.

I hope they go on to win it!
