And we didn't try to bend the rules when we finished 5th in 2005 did we??? C'mon you lot. Whilst there actions are clearly not good for us, we got back into the Champs league in 2006 by pleading to UEFA to change the rules. What's the difference here?
spot on - rules is rules, too many hypocrites here.

Erm sorry, no.
Before we won the CL, Real Madrid had won in 2000 but finished 5th in La Liga. Real Zaragoza finished 4th and in the CL places, but were put into the UEFA Cup because Real Madrid, as Champions, were put into the CL.
So no, we didnt ask for the rules to be 'changed', there was already a precedant set for that.
As you can see, Real Madrid took part in it, whilst Real Zaragoza didnt.
So the precedent had already been set for the winners to go into the following season's CL, even if they'd finished 5th. This happened WAY before Istanbul.

I think it was the Spanish League who decided that Real should be one of their 4 representatives as CL winners - the PL had already stated that the top 4 in the league would be the English representatives in the CL irrespective of Liverpool winning the competiton - so in fact the rules were changed.
Have they actually made that choice or were you just speculating on what they should do?
Sorry, I was just speculating.
They will be tight games and you could present a strong argument for each player, but I just think they should have enough cover up front and the key (for them) will be to win the midfield battle v Xabi/Mascher/Gerrard.
